Can some one offer suggestions on how to deal with a snorer(I've already ruled out smothering him with a pillow). Getting him to turn over works for about 5 minute's, then he starts again:( Ear plugs aren't really an option because I need to hear the girls. Do those nose strips work?

You can try them. We had limited success with it. What we did that was more effective was increase the humidity in the house.

Haha, I like how this gets posted at night.

My dad likes the noise strips, but I just get yelled at when I snore. :(

Suggest a sleep apnea test to see if he needs a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) pump. Either that or find someone else to sleep with........

j/k :D

This works great for every day sleeping. Will get used to it after a couple of sleeps.
I find its about a 80-90% success rate unless there's drinking involved then the rate drops to about 10% lol
I think it's about 60$ from any pharmacy and easy to set up.

But to guarantee no more snoring there's only a few options available,
changing your lifestyle by losing weight, and or stop smoking. Going for a sleep apnea diagnostic and having to sleep with the darth vader mask or having surgery.

tell spikers to lose some weight lol.

My dad used to snore like a chainsaw, dropped 30lbs recently and now doesn't snore at all.

Poor spikers... i see a lack of bbq in his future ;)

Dont just waste $ trying every gimmick out there... if your gp's half ass decent, you'll get the stupid apnea machine referal (200$?) - referal to the sleep clinic will take years, so get one to an ear/nose/throat - rule out the flap of skin scenario / surgery

Spikers - expect to hear diet an awful lot in your near future...

x2. I went through this about 4 years ago. I was so bad, the wife had to sleep in another room. Tried the few gimmicks...nothing but a waste of money. I wasn't overweight (5'10"....185 lbs) and nothing worked. Finally went for a Sleep Apnea test. Sure enough. It was very depressing knowing I had to get a "machine". The SA specialist said the surgeries aren't 100% and quite often the affliction will just come back.

I just went to a clinic (VitalAire) did the test and tried out a machine and a couple of different masks. (They'll let you rent a machine for a month).

Finally found one that I didn't mind TOO much and bought a machine. I don't have extended medical, so had to pay out of pocket. They're $2500 up here, so I looked in the US. Got the very same make and model for under $1,000.
Direct Home Medical (http://www.directhomemedical.com/cpap-machines-cpap-machine-apap-machine.html#.UjR1Ej969nk)

It took a few weeks to get used to. Almost a claustrophobic feel.
But now, when I'm on it, I sleep like a baby, rarely move around and not a peep out of me. Literally saved our marriage. And I'm not falling asleep at the wheel by 4:00 pm anymore.

Only problem is now when we go camping where there's no power....back to the rear bedroom I go.

The referrals for sleep apnea testing don't take THAT long. I talked to my GP about the ad I heard on the radio for Avant Sleep. She filled in the referral form and also sent in a referral to a clinic at Foothills Hospital. I got a call back within a week from both places. Chose Avant for the test and was given a machine to try within a week of the test. I ended up buying one through insurance (thank God-$$$$$$$).

Overall like Dave, I feel much better since being on it.

Dunno I've been on the waiting list for the foothills sleep clinic for 3-4? Years...

Yeah the Apnea test machine is available through outside sources - 200$ for the one i used years ago - heard they've come down...

Girl friend says when I sleep on my stomach for the entire night I don't snore, give that a shot.

If you're still looking into CPAP, I went through here and got all my consultation done in under a week after booking an appointment, then received my CPAP machine within a few days of getting my results.

http://dreamsleep.ca/

It's almost like a mobile consultation service.

The process I went through was fairly simple.

Booked appointment, took sleep test machine home, reviewed findings, received CPAP machine and now I sleep like a baby.

Hope this helps.
