Do these even exist anymore? I was just thinking of this, I don't think there is anything currently.

In the 2000's we had a few 8000 rpms cars.

Civic Si
RSX
CSX
Integra
Celica GTS
S2000
Rx-8 (Rotary I guess)

Ok so mostly Honda, but whatever.

Any manufacturers make over 7000rpm vehicles? Reasonably priced of course.

Two come to mind that are on the upper limit of reason:

370/g37 and Boss 302.

Both 7500 rpm.

2015 Honda fit RS is supposed to be something like 7500rpm and 6 sp, but we'll see.

EDIT: FRS is one.

BMW's S54 I6 and S65 V8 both rev to around 8000RPM stock.

E9x M3 is reasonably priced IMO.

I see lots of S54 powered cars for much less than a Boss 302 or Infiniti G35/G37. I even see S65 powered M3s for less than a new Boss 302.

Ok I did mean New.

As in 2013, at the dealer currently. There.

I think the need for big rpms has been reduced with the mass introduction of full variable valve timing, direct injection, and variable length intake runners. New engines don't need to compromise any longer.

New? None that are reasonably priced.

If you want a massive redline, AP1 S2K is the way to go. 9K is awesome.

Otherwise, you're looking at Ferrari 458s for 8000+ rpm new these days...

WTF would you want a rev limit that high. More valvetrain wear and tear and you have to abuse the piss out of the car to make it move.

Fvck that, give me a 6,000RPM limit and 600ft-lbs of torque at 2000rpm anyday :burnout:

High revs are satisfying. Need to really wind a car out.

Feels awesome.

Ford rumours are 5.4 flat-planed crank ALA Ferrari for the New Shelby gt350.

600bhp NA 8000rpm. Woot

Vtech power baby. Will probably make 200 ft/lbs of pure boredom while below 6000 rpm. What's the point of it all when boost is now cheaper and more reliable.

Civic Si, K24 @ 7100 rpm.

FR-S and BRZ, 7400 rpm

Cheaper and more reliable for forced induction? I don't buy it.

There is also something so satisfying about having peak power at redline.

For aftermarket big power. Consumer grade stuff, maybe not.

Running an RX8 to 9k is super fun! They are even more fun in the twisties, and you can pick one up under $10K.... :dunno:

No, forget the apex seals, just go for it RX8 R3! Or even better, an RX3!

I'd buy a bike. It's on the list actually.

When I drove a 458 this summer on the track it was like nothing else. 9k redline made my pants tight.

But boost is king for power

Miata MX5 2013

7,200rpm

WRX is nearly 7000 (6700)

Z06 is a pretty high revving V8...

Like stated boss 302 isn't bad either.

Save the money and buy a coyote track pack 5.0, do bolt ons and boss 302 manifold, get a custom tune and shift at 7400 all day

For $42k I will sell you my 2012 Boss 302 with only 7500km. It has 19" Forgelines, track key programmed, steeda Boss springs and over 2k in 3m on the most of the car. Cant beat that deal for basically a brand new car.

E46 M3, gotta love the raw power! not the fastest nowadays compared to all these new cars but for the price, you cant beat it. and sure line it up to a SS or 5.0 stang, you'll be in the lead after you hit the first corner:poosie:

I dunno about that the B302 is a pretty solid performer in corners with the way they designed the suspension... Against a car like mine though I'd probably do a wicked fast and furious Tokyo drift style flip like in the opening scene with the viper and Monte Carlo

Isn't the Boss 302 faster around a track than the new M3's by a significant margin?

I think he was referring to his e46

But yes the boss was slightly faster

I wouldnt say significantly but it was the benchmark they used in testing and it was at Laguna Seca where they did all the testing. Most BMW drivers think it is just a Ford though which if fine by me:D

Cool Story. Thanks for the contribution.

You should go change the rods bolts now before you spin a bearing.

Any vehicles in 2013 that do that?

Exactly. I mean the E46 M3 isn't a slouch or anything, and I'd have one, but to me, like you said raw power would be a z06, or a Dodge Viper, or the like. Big displacement, and tons of room for refining.

You're welcome.

 Well yeah that's the 302Boss though, I was referring to the lower 5.0 models.. Or did all the 5.0 come with the Boss engines?

Well yeah of course, but i meant it as in for a little Inline 6 making about 333hp at the crank and for the price they go for now, its nothing like a civic or a viper, id still refer to it as "raw power" since it comes with so much power right out of the Box. Its a nice car and handles amazingly. I chose the M3 because of its reviews and how well of a rounded competitor it is. For what you get in a little machine like this i would say its a good bang for your buck. Now you wont find a viper or a Z06 for under 25k unless you find one for a steal. I hear you on "a lot more room for refining", the E46 M3 will be no where close to the gains of what a intake or full exhaust will give you compared to a Z06. FFS' a $1500 intake wont even give you close to 5whp on an M3

My votes still towards the M3. Yes Im biased of course:D

Maybe you don't understand what "raw power" means... At that rate, you might as well say LOVE the S2K for RAW POWER!!!

I was reffering to the inline 6's. I dont think there is any other engine that came with 333hp with 6 cylinders.
Yeah raw power is v8's, but for a 6cyl, I consider the the m3 to be anlittle monster for its age.

Yeah thats what I said in my previous posts, the M3 is not as fast now compared to most cars today but back than it was.

In terms of HP/litre for a naturally aspirated engine, the S54 engine was pretty impressive for its time.

Still one of my all time favorite engines but not so fast anymore which you've said.

I'll stick to the same era of cars and engines, but off the top of my head, Porsche had a bunch:

996 GT3, GT3 RS, etc.
996 Turbo, GT2, etc.

At least 5 or 6 different variants that were more powerful and better than the E46 M3 engine.

Forced induction doesn't count. And what was the cost of a gt3? 2x that of an m3.

S54 also had more than 100 hp/l, which is rarely done, even today.

Exactly what i was getting at!

On of my favorite engines aswell! Once i have the funds ill swap in a S54 in a E30!
