Looking at this link it looks like there is a ton of other 'questionable' building situations in china.

If you read the link it says that there are people living in them...and no money to move people out. You can paypal me...thanks :D

At least if they decided to do it, they could probably just push it over out of the way in one piece

Reminds me of the original SimCity and dragging the bulldozer one square too far. @^%*#.

...or the 9000-9600 block of Métis Trail....

Misleading title of the article. The housing complex was there FIRST, then they built the highway.

I don't see why they couldn't curve the highway around it, there is enough room. Stupid all around!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2236746/Road-built-building-couple-refuse-China.html I was curious about this house and how long it would have lasted. Looks like it got torn down about a week later. The City said the farmer accepted their 260,000 yuan (~$45,000.00 CDN) buyout:

I tried to find it on Google Maps, but the satellite imagery is from well before they started building this road.

At the top of the picture the road is closed off, so it's not like they did this in the middle of Deerfoot. It's more like an entrance to a park or parking. Not a big deal and not as dumb as people are making it out to be.

^I find it hard to believe a city would build an 8-lane roadway just for the hell of it.

I had a look at Google Maps and found the location in satellite view, but it shows mid-construction and it's not clear whether the road is planned to continue South, or just to connect to a fairly major East-West roadway that is at the location at the top of the picture you referred to.

Satellite view: http://goo.gl/maps/m4QT4

What is interesting (to me at least) is if you flip into map view, you can see that a huge number of buildings show up in map view that have clearly been demolished - as evidenced by the article photos and the satellite images. Who is to say they're not planning to continue the massive demolition project to continue that road?

China builds entire cities for the hell of it. 8 lanes is nothing. Google China Ghost Cities

I like what Japan did with this highway/building:

^But it's the scale of these projects that blows my mind.

Take a look at this satellite map - this is just West of the Apartments in question and on the seam between an old satellite image and a newer image to the West, you can see that between those two images being captured, several entire city blocks have been demolished. More buildings in that area have been demolished.

I'm just saying, you can't count on the road not going far now as an indication that it's not meant to be a major thoroughfare in the future.

^^ Not sure, you could be correct, but I've been to China a couple of times in the last few years to a whole bunch of large and smaller cities and there are roads like that everywhere in and around the cities unlike our 1-2 lane roads that we have here.

Practice mulligan.

China can afford it. They take lessons from Las Vegas. Even if you like it - knock it down and experiment.

Its one of the quirkier things you can do when you have US dollars to burn. Like tearing down a perfectly good car and rebuilding it.

Not sure who has read the article posted by dexlargo, but I was just reading it myself and they included pictures of other forced relocations, and I got curious and started looking online.....so it looks like if the developer really wanted to...they could just do what they did here in that building that is in the middle of the road

At least it's not a big huge blue ring on the side of the roadway

Haha, its funny, I was originally going to put this into the blue ring thread but decided not too as I wasn't really seeing a good enough connection...but I guess it is there afterall :D
