I'll be looking for snow removal services this winter, and also for my parent's place. Looking to see if anyone else in the Edgemont area would be interested or not.

If there's enough interest, a solid scope of work will have to be drafted and an RFP package to a variety of snow removal/landscaping companies based on the following criteria:

(1) Proper insurances
(2) Response time
(3) Equipment availability
(4) Workforce
(5) Past experience
(6) Price
(7) Performance guarantees

Not sure how well your concept is gonna work op. any "legitimate business" that fits within your criteria would/should be busy during winter season to be charging market rates (no need to take on discounts).. Unless u offer them work during their off season :dunno:

Looks like $145-185 a month for any reputable firms and most of them probably aren't going to worry about group-buys. Might be able to get some back-yard kind of places to put in a RFP, but I'd be worried about reliability.

TomcoPDR - there are several ways that discounts could be achieved (1) Guaranteed revenues from "x' number of participants. (2) Payment terms (quick pay discounts, pre-payment discounts).

The intent of shoring up capacity now is that they won't have to spend money on marketing during the winter. Hope its early enough... may have missed the boat at this time of the year.

Speedog - yes reliability would be the major concern along with responsiveness.

I think the only realistic way of getting a company on board with a group buy or group discount is if you're talking to your neighbors and actually get a group of people all in a row to buy in. I could see a company wanting to offer a bit of a deal to clear an entire city block in one go instead of individual homes scattered over the city.

Just GB with your neighbours to get a snow blower. Then take turns each month.
