Looking for a new winter vehicle, mostly looking for a small suv thats not overly boring (CRVs, Rav4s are gay).

Anyone has one of these? Looks like a bigger GTI which I like, hows the gas mileage? anyone has any first hand experience?

I got into my Q5 for 47K all in... it is a bit smaller than my CRV, but loving it so far

I was going to say the exact same thing, Tiguan's also look like shit compared to the Q5.

Q5 is like 10k more in that year range... lol

I'm not buying new either, we're talking 09-11

It is just a big gti. Of course it doesn't handle as well, but the trade off of more space and optional Awd I almost think it's a better vehicle.

Drove one when my girlfriend was looking for a new car. There really was not much I didn't like about it. Then I started looking up unitronic tunes for it:thumbsup:

GF's parents have one that we have taken on a couple road trips. My only complaint is the rear cargo room. They have the turbo with AWD. Great seating position for driver and passenger (I am 6'3", GF is 6'4") with good leg room. Comfortable for 7 hours of driving. Really like the large sunroof. A lot better on gas then what I usually drive so I do not really notice the gas costs (other then that they are a lot less then what I am used to). Visibility is good all around, and backing up a trailer with it is a breeze.

All in all I really like the vehicle.

A 4x4 GTI.

Do. Not want lol

Q5 is that much more aesthetically pleasing.

It's ok Vince, I envy your skating skills. So smooth :bigpimp:

It's not a big GTI. It is a raised GTI that's all. There is no more room inside than a normal Golf/GTI.

^Just coming to post that. Absolutely zero point in getting this over a Golf R (we want AWD, right?) ;)

Except sight lines, ground clearance, and load height. All important things a wife/partner would look for in a vehicle.

Subaru Forester XT

We test drove some Tiguans when shopping for my Mom. Loved them, but a bit small, and too overpriced when new. Not sure how they fare on the used market.

I wouldn't recommend a Forrester XT unless you can get a newer one or a MT - the 4 speed autos in the older ones were a deal breaker (IMO).

How about Murano? That's what we ended up with. It's kind of a stand out in the Nissan lineup in that it's built and appointed like an Infinity. Good interior room, nice to drive, and there's usually price incentives (we got 0% financing for 72 months). Would have to go used to get one in the $20K range though.

In that price range the Tiguan will the the most rewarding smal CUV to drive. Just buy it but don't expect a ton more room than GTI.

Other suggestion would be cars like Legacy GT Wagon if you can find one, Audi A3, Audi A4 wagon.

The only different dimension is height, so I don't get where the massive difference comes from?

Height is the main one, but it's also longer and wider. Width by like an inch, so that's useless, but take a look at the space in each. Huge difference.

I wanna throw out a curve ball, but what about an '09 Escape?

240Hp 3L, 6 sp auto.

It's actually quite quick, gets mid 30's on the highway and cheap.

Guys with the FWD model were getting these things in the 14's for quarter mile

The CRVs are incredible little vehicles in the snow. My Mother has one and it's amazing, even in deep snow - there was over a foot of snow in her alley and couldn't believe it (with winters mind you).

You might be able to get into a 4Runner depending on the year/mileage. Xterra also?

In terms of size, are you looking for an SUV or a CUV?

Trunk space is a bit taller. However interior space is virtually the same between the two.

That S4 is too old. And I dont need anything super fast. Not much can beat my summer car.

An A4 would be cool, also looking at a brand new CX-5.... 0% financing, great on gas.

Just ordered a grey Forester XT 2.0 Turbo 250hp, and the best sport CVT I've driven.(worked at nissan, the best is the current Altima V6) Even reviewers agree on that. They are selling so well Subaru sales have spiked dramatically.

Test drove a cx5.. its painfully slow with the 2.5L... Drove an Escape Titanium as well, very very impressive cuv. Good power, tons of cool options. Ford syn looks great and the interior is spaceship like... next up, Q5 and Tiguan

There was a while back in 2011/2012 where half my paycheques were from those things blowing up.

Good to know. My '08 with the 4sp 200hp v6 is now at 140km with ZERO issues other than brakes, tires, fluids.

Did the gas filler breather tube myself as per the TSB and it's awesome.

Any issues with the '08 I should look for Rat Fink? I know you're the ford Man.
