Hey guys, in July this year we picked up a gooseneck equipment/car hauler trailer like this one.

http://www.fot.ca/trailer/new/Big+Tex+Trailers/2014-Big+Tex+Trailers-21ET-22GN+EQUIPMENT+TRAILER-c1226c6d0a0a010901077aa7dbbabb16.htm

Only a bit smaller with dual 7k axles.
Problem is, we have to let it sit outside over the winter at the farm, since we dont have the space to store it inside.

There are locks available, that secure the box mounted hitch ball hook up on the trailer itself, which would work brilliantly as a theft deterant.

Just wondering what are the best most unbreakable ones out there, what they'd typically cost, and where is a good place to get them.

I've never had to lock up a trailer like this, so Im new to all this.

Huge thanks for reading this and offering any help you can provide, thanks. :)

you'd be better off with a couple wheel locks, like the boot they use for parking fines in the US, if someone is determined enough they will just pick up the tongue with a tow truck winch or whatever so the hitch lock wouldn't help a lot.

There are always ways if they're really determined, and have an angle grinder :P , but that's the most effective IMO

^The only tow truck within 200km's is owned by a company that I know the owners of, so thats no worry. Short of a tractor with a front end loader, with the hitch lock, Im not overly worried.

High Quality bike lock through the wheel/ axels? If you can do it conspicuously they will destroy your wheels trying to take off but thats better than the whole trailer.

A long time ago I worked a seasonal job landscaping and the 5th wheel trailers would sit all winter in the foothills industrial area. The company lost a trailer to theft and from then on, they sat on blocks for the winter. You would have to be pretty motivated to steal one without wheels!

wheel lock is still better, how hard would it be for someone to bring a couple wheels and a t-bar?..

couple empty casings of shotgun shells scattered around the trailer also gives some security, or fear...

My uncle uses a boot on his trailer, he bought it in the US. I believe his trailer insurance was discounted to reflect the boot being secured. This site gives you some idea as to what is available:
