So I am looking for a general contractor for a small home reno. What I need is someone to take down a 8 foot long wall in the basement, and frame/drywall an area for the laundry room. Includes a bunch of electrical and maybe put down floor too. I am guessing < $5k all in Sounds easy right? Think again
Pretty much everyone that I called off homestars.ca specializes in $40k-$50k jobs.
So I start calling the smaller guys, and notice that the ones that I called are companies that have one or more of the following issues:
1. struck off the registry
2. asking for prepaid deposits with no alberta licensing - a criminal act.
3. no insurance
4. no bonding
5. no wcb coverage
6. don't think permits are necessary.
Do good "little" guys that check out with all the correct licensing actually exist? Or am I expecting too much???
Thanks Beyond :)
