I have an observation, and maybe a question to go along with it.

Why do guys, typically the ricer crowd, want to sit so low in there cars that they have to drive with there chins sticking up to look over the steering wheel?

I was browsing some old driven/DTP pics and came across this funny picture.

Look how low the drive seat is in relation to the passenger seat. It's two feet lower!

Helmet?
Smaller steering wheel diameter blocking oem gauges?
Also fixed back seats don't recline; so if you are taller, you have to sit lower since you can't sit back.

There can also be two types of seat rails when you put these in the car. Normal height and low profile.

While I agree that low profile is good for people who actually RACE these cars.. The car the OP posted is simply a show car as there is benefit to a wing that large or canards on a fwd car.

That car is simply all show.

I thought it was a caucasian thing... so they can look as short as the Asians they're trying to emulate.

Lower center of gravity? Maybe Like rally car setup.

It's the same reason that ricers tend to date women with small hands.

Except rally cars do it the other way around - the driver sits high so he can see where he's driving, and the co-driver (passenger) is sat on the floor pan to reduce his contribution to COG and since he doesn't need to see the road anyway.

I have never owned a car with a seat like that, but it could be good for me, I am 6'2 and my legs seem a bit too long for my arms. I always feel like either the shifter is too far away, or my legs are too close.

I can't heel toe comfortably in most cars without my right knee/thigh hitting the wheel.

if i had an ultra low seat i bet that would help a lot.

Also :whocares:

The ultra low seat is so they have more headroom for their spiky hair.

The seat on my mr2 is essentially on the floor, bride lowmax with low rails. Lower centre of gravity but in a small car with a big helmet and a roll cage its nice to be so low.

Even here my head is a bit high in relation to how low the seat is.

It's an odd feeling sitting so low in the winter because you can almost feel the snow hitting your butt haha.

I'm 6'3 and I would lower the rails on any jap coupe if I was to expecting to wear a helmet.

My sunroof corolla was so bad I had to leave the shade open lol.

I only recently bought a sunroof car again, but I usually avoid them because of headroom.

It makes sense for tall guys and helmets, but when you're a 5 foot 5 guy, and you can already barely see over the wheel it doesn't make sense!

I was thinking this too. My WRX from factory had the passenger seat lower than the drivers.

Definitely center of gravity. When you recline the seat you shift the spacial geometry of your body which effectively lowers the weighted relative position of the entire sum of mass of your vehicle. This in turn allows you to take any turn at up to twice the regular velocity and in some cases boosts your overall HP by 10 points.
