In Sunday night's episode Bart writes ‘‘We’ll miss you Mrs. K" on a blackboard in reference to Wallace's character in the show Edna Krabappel.

The Simpson's has paid tribute to Marcia Wallace in its latest episode with a special farewell message scrawled on a blackboard - by Bart. In the opening sequence of Sunday night's episode Bart writes ‘‘We’ll miss you Mrs. K" on the board in reference to Wallace's character in the show, teacher Edna Krabappel. The American actress died last month at the age of 70. She had been the voice of Krabappel for many years. Following her death the show's executive producer Al Jean described Wallace as "brilliant and gracious" and that she was "beloved by all at "The Simpsons" and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character."

Even though I haven't watched a new episode in about 15 years, it still bummed me out when I heard that. :(

It's a long ass running show, wonder how much longer can they run it.

It's still funny to watch from time to time.

For the first time in about 5 years I decided out of nowhere to watch a new Simpsons episode last night and saw that during the opening, :( had no idea.

RIP, I didn't know she was that old either.

wasn't there another Simpsons character that was supposed to permanently die last season or this season?

She was 70 when she passed away. Read that she had cancer.

Regardless, RIP. Sad news.

Same. First time I watched a new Simpsons episode in many years. They stopped being funny a long time ago.

Yup. They were planning on killing off a character this season, but it wasn't going to be Krabappel. So there will be two characters being retired this season.
