I need a good, honest, licensed mobile mechanic to fix my car....can anyone suggest one? First search on google found this...

http://www.mobilemechaniccalgary.ca/

I don't want a backyard mechanic or some shady mechanic off kijiji, I want someone that has some sort of satisfaction guarantee...

Guy on my team is a regular mechanic and has a mobile rig as well. Good guy, not shady at all... I'll try and grab his number

2004 Mazda 3 GT auto with 250,000km....will crank but not start up.

I switched in a working battery, no dice. When I turn the key to on I can hear the fuel pump come to life and also I can smell gasoline after trying to start the car a few times so I know it's not fuel related....spark plugs are brand new...I haven't actually tested for a spark because this is all new to me (it's my understanding I just unplug one of the spark plugs, connect it to plug, have someone turn ignition key and see if there's a spark??) but I am leaning towards the starter motor itself dying (and therefore not providing enough crank power to the engine flywheel?), reason being when I first got the car in June I always noticed a pretty audible "clank" after the engine starts up, and I've noticed recently (not sure if it's the cold weather) that it takes a couple seconds of cranking to start....so that's why I'm going to try putting in a new starter first, if that doesn't work it's time to call a mechanic to come :(

Have you tried a push start?

Edit: nvm, read it's an auto. Can you even push start autos?

Why do you need a mobile mechanic?

Just have it towed it to a shop and do it properly.

Nope, also held down accelerator and cranked to make sure its not flooded, took out injector fuze and tried, nothing, tried cranking in neutral, nothing...first car with starting problems other than battery...hoping it really is the starter.

Damn I'll check the theft light....and ya I wish there was a cel...then at least I'd have a code to work with but ya no cel which makes me rule out some of the things like crank sensor...

actually, its not immobilizer either cuz it will crank...

i know a guy with a flatbed that charged me $70 to tow my Silvia from saddle ridge to Marlborough when i needed my clutch done. My car is slammed so i think it should be cheaper for you since the cars higher than mine.
Or get ama for $100 and have them tow it. you get like 5 free tows i think and more shit with the package. Plus its way too cold out to have a mobile mechanic to do repairs outside (isent it illegal to do roadside repairs?)

If the engine cranks over, is not the starter. Fuel smell and no start or definitely a spark, ignition problem. Some cars will crank when the I mobilizer is set.

I used the above guy, he was great. Was on-time and really knew his shit.

Damn....thats what I read too, so if it cranks, 100% not the starter?...Ill look into ignition...I want to figure this out myself lol its not my daily driver now so I want to actually learn something, thanks for all the help.

Yes, not the starter 100%
No I mobilizer signal, and no start with out codes, typically lead me to check the crank-cam sensor, or the ignition coil.

If you scan tool does data, I would check to see if the PCM is seeng an rpm signal on crank.

This is what you need to see if you have spark. It's only $6 at P.A.

Plug it in inline with a sparkplug, turn off the garage lights, and crank away. If it lights up, you're getting spark.

For modern COP, or ignition module systems I would recommend this style of tester.

You will be looking for a nice white/blue spark. Orange or yellow will cause start issues, and drivability issues.

Just tried switching the ignition coils from my gf's working Mazda 3, no dice...I'll buy the spark testers...

If it really is the CKP sensor I looked it up on my car and it looks like it's way above my skill level lol...will definitely need a pro to do it...

Rick, you bought an old Pathfinder from me before, seem like an honest person, you willing to come to Evanston to help me if I need it? I'll pay you of course....
