Hi all,

Posting for a good friend of mine. Someone hit his STI at the gas station and took off. Already talked to gas station, their recording shit doesn't work.

Details:

Time/Date: Saturday November 16 at approximately 3-3:10 pm.

Location: Country Hills Village plaza at Country Hills and Sarcee Trail.

Perp: Blue 4 door Pontiac G5/Pursuit. Non-tinted windows, the guy will most likely have a ding on his passenger side rear bumper.

Description Perp was a white male, mid 30's, was wearing a ball cap at the time (if you zoom in on the original, you can see his cap)

EDIT: Updated with timeline.

November 16:

-Perp filled up with gas around the same time (I remember seeing the Blue Pontiac filling up with gas a couple of stalls over)

-14:55-14:10, time of the hit and run in Super Store Gas Bar parking lot

-Confirmed with 2 eye witnesses and have their information on the occurrence

-Have 2 eye witnesses contact numbers

-Called 911 and reported the hit and run with the perp’s description

-Went to CPS on 14th and John Laurie, police report is filed with all the info

-Went back to Super Store Gas Bar, they advised they cannot view their camera due to technical issues. The person staffed did say that they cameras were rolling but could not view the videos. Was advised to come back between 7:00-8:00 the next day.

-Called insurance company and advised on the incident

-Was told that if I cannot get the guys insurance info, I would have to pay the $500 deductible

-Have up to 2 years to go through insurance to get car fixed

November 17:

-Went back for 8:00 to the Gas Bar, was advised they still could not view the video’s

-Left contact info with perp’s description and approximate time window when they would have filled up with gas

-Also asked if the cameras were still rolling, employee said yes at the time

-Confirmed that tapes are held up to 3 months

November 18:

-Called Gas Bar at 8:00, spoke to the manager

-He advised that cameras have been down since early November (so technical yes, you could do a gas and run)

-Confirmed with him that they cannot view the video’s (which I find hard to believe, I think because they just don’t want to look them up)

November 19:

-Had rxyboi start thread on Beyond.ca

-After work, went back to Country Hills Village Plaza and spoke to Famoso, Scotia Bank and Super Store Liquor

-All advised they do not have any cameras on the outside of the building’s (a bank without a camera on the outside of the building I find hard to believe)

-Have posted link to this forum on Facebook and informed all friends in the area.

-Went for a quick drive around the area at night, will be doing this periodically to catch a lucky break and find the perp

If anyone else can suggest other things to try I am open and willing…

On a side note I am investing in a dash cam from here on out.

I'm not sure. From the pics my friend gave me the guy was certainly close. I would have run after the car if it was me but what's done is done.

This city is littered with hit n runners.. bad drivers and not owning up to their own mistakes. :whipped:

Rare to see someone hit and do the right thing by leaving their name and number. We need to up the punishment and make charges mandatory instead of letting the cop decide at their discretion whether to charge them for fleeing the scene once they are caught.

First to find the car and post a pic of it infront of the house / address wins!!

Does your friend have any witnesses though? How is he going to prove anything without the fucking dumb ass gas station's video system working?

I find it hard to believe a gas station would have a non working camera setup.
There is 1000's of reasons for them to have one, zero to not. Even if it was just a temporary problem, which is very unlikely, they would be putting in some effort to get it working in time for business hours.
Guaranteed they just didn't wanna put in any effort of looking through the footage for you.

The gas station wouldn't even give you the footage if they had it. They would provide the footage to police and that's it.

So OP, this means get the police to go to the gas station and request the footage.
I'd be doing this like..... now.
Time is money.

True. Sooner is better than later. Most places will only keep footage for a limited amount of time.

didn't he say the video recording didn't work?

It's a Superstore gas station if I'm not mistaken. You're lucky if they have functional pumps.

Dude working the counter probably turned it off so there wouldn't be a recording of his own illicit dealings.

I've passed the message along to my friend.

He went around the area like the Famosa pizza place, Scotia bank, and the Superstore Liquor store, all of whom deny having any cameras.

I suspect that my friend is doing this on his own because CPS may not have the time to do it for him. I'm not sure about that though.

- Guy behind the gas station may not be allowed to provide the footage to the person. Police have to request it and be involved.

- Guy behind gas station was either too lazy to search through the footage, or used that excuse so that he didn't have to go through hassle in waiting for police to be able to see the footage.

The surveillance footage usually loops over itself so it'll erase eventually.

I mean really, doesn't even matter the gas station why wouldn't their camera system be working? That would be incredibly dumb on Superstore lol.

Considering the thoughts that a few appear to have had that are similar to yours, I find it kind of disturbing that people would resort to breaking the law so easily.

As far as the camera thing, we've got cameras in our shop and releasing that info to anyone else then ourselves or the police could possibly have some privacy implications. As nice as it would be to help out joe blow, the fact of the matter is that any private recordings that I have that I might happen to release to an unrelated party to myself that is to be used for purposes unrelated to myself or my business could put me at risk. Privacy of information is a huge deal these days - anyone working for any decent organization should be well aware of this. Sucks that the OP's friend and someone else in this thread have been involved in hit and runs and are likely to get screwed over, but to expect a business to willingly hand over information that is private is a bit too much.

find someone with rly expensive software and have those pics professionally enhanced to try for a plate or a partial plate.........its a long shot but sounds like the only option with potentially promising results since security cams seem to have failed here

Haha, that reminds me of the movie Minority Report.

"STOP! You're under arrest!!!"

"For what???"

"Murder!!!"

"I didn't do nothing!!!"

"Yeah......but you were thinking it!!!"

So here is what I could do, hope this helps...
http://i.imgur.com/8RsmoPD.jpg

I tried to zoom into the pic to see who it really was, and I think you will be surprised.

http://i.imgur.com/b1jwx3Q.jpg

Still can't see...

http://i.imgur.com/ZtV151A.jpg

Pretty close but his face is still blurry....

http://i.imgur.com/BoalZwO.jpg

I was close, but I needed to clear his face too, so I used some photoshop and you wouldn't believe how well it worked.

Hope this cheers you up a bit :D
