I think most are ok with the Cyberbullying laws, but how did they manage to squeek this in:

"Strangely this bill also focuses on terrorism , cable theft & cable fraud. It can be used in terrorism investigations that goes as far as being able to track the cars of the accused and also gives up to five year sentences to people who steal cable tv (or internet) or doing fraud to obtain cable tv (or internet). So that means if you have cable or internet in someone else’s name then that is considered fraud and is a punishable offence under this new bill."

Exact same max penalty as transporting $101 worth of nickels from the US to Canada, five years.

It's not surprising, remember toews whole speech on "if you aren't with us, you are with the child pornographers"

Sleazy politics of the usual kind, it's a good tactic of sneaking in new laws, but if the government thinks these measures are so important for Canadians, maybe they shouldn't bury them in other bills. I suppose that is the "transparency" that the Harper government is talking about.

Activate cable boxes on account that has full package, send boxes to houses that only paid for basic?

i have a couple boxes that actually work like that

but for the most part you have to add them to the new account or they dont work.

but they also said "doing fraud to obtain cable" so... sign up under a student account when you are not a student?

I had a neighbor with the worst credit possible, I mean like so bad it was like it was his job to try and toilet it or something.

When he got his new Telus package, with absolutely everything, I asked him how he qualified for it and a new cell phone on the same day. Well, the phone was prepaid, shocker I know, but the Telus account, he said he called in, gave his address and a BS name and made up driv. lic close to his, and presto, instant 1000$ worth of equipment and full channel line up. His logic was that so long as he kept paying the bill, it would all work out.

I think it was the whole "paying the bill" part that made the whole plan come undone, but I can't be certain.

This is the only thing I can come up with that this law will stop, the whole "it's for the children/child porn" thing is BS IMO, there are far more effective measures that could be taken to try and stem that than this stupid law.
