:D

Got an aluminum rod about 9 inches long by 5/8" that I just need turned down a bit for a little project of mine on the Integra. Should cut like butter. Lots of material compared to what I need so there's fudge room. Any takers?

Yesssss lol.... what diameter do you want it turned to?

Sentry

12.5mm ish with like 2 inches of 10mm that I'm gonna thread.

Shifter extension I would say from the looks of it.

I'm making a broke ass version of the fastline shifter. The threads broke off the egay short shifter on the teg so I figure I'd use this opportunity to mess with it instead of chucking it in the trash.

Do you work for transcoil or something? :)

oh screw it. I'm not gonna say where I work because I know for a fact my boss is on here. But I'm sure he'd know it's me and also wouldn't care.

Modeling over remote desktop is hard and I miss my 3d mouse. :(

i'll bite, assholes lol...

Assuming T6061, the weight of the shaft is approx. 0.106lbs with a center of mass 2.985" from the larger end not taking into account your thread or the bore I am assuming you will be putting in.

I personally like to taper the female end so the shifter extension meets the stock shaft less abruptly, as well as make a chamfered provision on the male end to help the die start easier

I would bite and give some sample stress distributions but I'm scared of booting into win7 and all the updates lol.

its not fun to do with inventor... combo of the coil function (turned to cut) and the extrusion function (also used to cut). inventor does have the thread button... but its just a graphic, so making .stl's for the 3-D printer doesnt work

gretz
11-26-2013, 11:28 AM
The thread wasn't requested in the part, I only modeled what was required... lol

I like where this thread is going.

I think you need female threads on the bottom side so that it can be threaded onto the existing shift lever.

Yeah well considering its just a visual, I'm happy with a texture overlay. Plus even if I was going to 3d print this I'd still just tap it myself after..

What's the internal thread size? lol.

It will be the female version of the threads at the small end of the shaft, so if you had 2 of these they would thread into each other.

Can't you change the external shell thickness though? Just leave enough meat to cut the threads?

I dunno, I bought a rigidbot and it's supposed to have 100 micron resolution but I don't know how fine a thread it could really do. For hobby stuff most screws are 3mm and I definitely wouldn't want to try that..

yeah i guess i could turn them up, got the rep2x... it is nice to have a filament based printer for desk side use, we mostly just use it to print off extrusion samples for the visual learners before we order new dies
