The 944 turbo is my car, not Kenny's. Looks like I got the 2nd highest trap speed on the list, but I think Brad pulled a best of 12.3@118mph this year.

What ever happened to Dom this year? I really wanted to see him run.

Oops, that's right. Your name is $$$$$$$, not Kenny. Damn high rollers are so hard to keep tack of.

When Brad ran his quickest ET, what was his trap speed? I thought is was 108.

Pacman

Dom is in Italy for a while. But his 930 should be close to being put back together. I think Steve Clarehout (black 300zx twinner who also ran a very fast time last year but can't remember exactly what is was) will be driving it if it's done in time and the weather is good.

aren't trap speeds a more accurate way of measuring the 1/4 anyways because although certain things may change but the trap speeds remain relatively constant right?

No man, drag racing is all about who crosses the finish line first!

Trap speeds do somewhat indicate a car's potential though.

rage2

Trap speeds is a good comparison of a car's power/weight ratio. Some ppl like to compare trap speeds, but most people compare ET's (who gets to the line first). ET's are wildly affected by tires, I think the 2 Porsches and the #9 civic are the only guys running street tires, therefore high trap speed, with poor ET's.

It was a '02 996 twinner. Supposed to be stock 415hp, but the time's are faster than what they run at sea level, so I'm guessing either Autothority chips, or the 450hp factory power package.

I saw the 911 at Race City.

It was a 996 TT with the GT2 style body kit. Younger dude, probably about 24 years old.

I heard it had like $10K of carbon on the inside, GT2 motor, and only 500km on the odo. I don't know though.

I never saw it up close.

ok, I know the red 996 you are talking about now.

I talked to the kid personally one night, and to say it in the nicest way, he is a jerk. First he told me his car was a GT2, then he told me it had over 700hp, then he said it cost him over $280,000. He basically was able to weave 3 lies into one explanation of the car.

However, I believe his car does have the X50 option package which may explain the good times.

That's my goal before the end of the year. Just need 1 good run. I think Brad shouldn't have any troubles hitting it either. I've been running 25psi of boost on the last runs, 28psi should net me comfortably in the 120mph range.

Just wanted to point out that Clinton in the red 1G Talon ran a 13.04 in his last good run this weekend at the SCC before his tranny went *boom* in the final run against the Supra... :( :( That was such a damn shame, he would've hit the 12's with that launch too. :banghead: (sorry can't remember the mph's)

Ron in the grey 2G talon hit 12.1 before he blew something too... argh, not a good weekend for DSMs.

Clinton!... that was his name. I couldn't remember it. His trapspeed was 107.69 mph. I know that because I was the 300ZXTT he eliminated in round two. I was running 107+ traps most of the day too, but I crunched 4th gear on that last run. But even with a clean shift, I think he still would've won. I finished with a 13.3sec pass.

There was a third talon that broke yesterday too... a white one that dumped oil on the track and had to be pushed back down the return lane. I'm not sure exactly what happened to it.

The red Porsche belongs to Scott Sargent. He's a local kid who
has too much money to spend. Does anybody remember the Ducatti "R" bike down at the track last year? That was him.

The car does have the carbon fibre package along with every other factory mod that you can order. The cost WAS close to $280,000. From what I was told from him and Brad, it's not a 996 but a 911 TT. He dropped by my house the day he got it and as we've all seen, it's gorgeous.
He's definately a different kid, but I gotta love his car!

VC out....

Well...new ones are 911 (996 version) twin turbos. The factory optional carbon fibre interior goodies are VERY expensive, but unless it is a factory X50 package car (which I don't believe it is), the price of the car was not over $200k.

I was a little doubfull myself rob, so I went on the Porsche website to see. When you build your own 911 TT and add all the options that Scott has, it came close to $175US....which is basically 280K Cdn. I've only ever sat in it once so I couldn't tell you what or what not this kid has. All I know is that it was a lot of money for a kid who is under 24 yrs. old!

The 911's have that distinctive body style, and then they use the 996, 993, 930 for example to distinguish what version it is, much like software I guess, when you get V1.0.0.1, V1.0.0.2 and so on. Just like Loose eplained.

930's came along in the 80's and then they have moved up to the latest 996...

Sounds about right. Wait 'till he mounts up some sticky tires and turns up the boost :) C ya.... Anyway, lets not forget it is still set-up as a road course car, not a 1/4 machine. Of course he could always get serious and turn in into an Eddie Bello special.

I understand the traction issue..especially with street tires and with that kind of power (and at a very poorly prepped track)
With that mph and some slicks, 10's wouldnt be a problem
But i thought he was running somewhere in the ballpark of 25psi?

I went through the options list & ordered the vehicle with him. It is a Turbo, not a GT2. He wanted the 4WD not just RWD. Trust me, if it is an option from the factory it is on there (unless it was ugly - aka red leather on the steering wheel). And yes, a factory engine performance upgrade was selected from the factory, but i'm not too familiar with Porsche (i.e. X50 package car). You obviously know how expensive the options are, cause even the non-turbo logoed wheel center caps cost an arm and a leg.

As for the final price, I believe it did fall over $250k, but i'm not sure if that was tax-in or not. Either way, i'd rather have it than 10 of my cars any day of the week. I drove it the same day he picked it up, and let me tell you, power delivery was soooo smooth. It was way faster than you thought. Out by 22X I had it up to 200-240k in no time, but that wasn't as impressive as it in the bends (cornering in a stable manner over 150-200k is pretty intense - especially when trees surround the road).

one day...

As for my 1/4 mile time, mph, they are weak at best. The best time was only driving 2/3 of the track, while my other times had severe traction problems due to a lack of LSD, not to mention that the runs were only made at 17psi.

Oh, what may happen when the car delivers the 22-24psi it had on the dyno that day...

From what I was told at South Centre fine cars last year, as the 996 TT in question was still yet to be delivered, it is a 911TT with aero package, carbon interior and cost in the neighborhood of 195,000 to 200,000. This was out of the salesman's mouth.
