What is the dress code these days for an interview at a large or intermediate oil and gas company for a technical position (engineering, accounting, geoscience) with a few years of experience? Is it expected to wear a suit and tie or is it better to just wear a dress shirt/pants that would be typical around the office?

Dress shirt, Tie optional. The larger the company the better you should dress. if i8t's a small shop, you can probably get away with a golf shirt, but somewhere like shell or exxon you should wear the tie.

If you have a suit that fits you well, and looks good, wear it. No one is going to discriminate against you for looking good, shows that you care, and you will feel good wearing it.

Only wear a tie if you know how to tie it properly. The number of people I see with a sloppy tie, either around their belly button or down way below their belt. :banghead:

Wear a suit. Since I graduated, I've had 4 interviews and 3 jobs. Only job I didn't get was the one where I didn't wear a suit to the interview.

Dress shirt plus tie.

I would never go to an interview without a tie.

Dress to impress bitches!

Its not like a suit is terribly formal or anything, its appropriate work wear for a professional environment. And lets be honest, if you have a good suit that fits well, you'll look like someone who means business. Just one of those little extra things that will separate you from the rest of the pack.

I'd ask the recruiter what I should be wearing for the interview. Enbridge and Talisman, for example, wanted interviews in suit & tie. Where as Encana and Husky it was business casual.

Its so easy for guys when it comes to interviews... full suit (tie I feel optional in todays standards).

You dont look over dressed with just a standard suit and its a freaking interview people wont think its odd.
