I'm sure some of you have seen the story going around already, but this piece of shit's been running around walking out on huge bills at some of the nicest restaurants in town. Someone here probably knows who the guy is. I can maybe understand accidentally walking out in a drunken stupor - shit happens - but this guys planning ahead with decoy wallets and everything.

Damn, didn't realize it started over a month ago haha. But he's still going, ie. not caught yet. The guy just rubs me the wrong way, looking all smug and shit in that pic :whipped:

No. Stealing is stealing, doesn't matter if its a $1 item or a $1000 item. Hes hit other places as well, who knows what his tab was when he dashed.

Like Woody Allen with slightly thicker eyebrows?

I never quite understood why it was always customary to pay after the meal. In this electronic age, its perfectly possible to pay everything but the tip before ordering.

Not to mention that most restaurants take it out of that servers pay for not keeping track of their customers.

Which is why I always leave a good tip when I go to any restaurant or sheesha bar. Helps out with the waitresses paycheck if they have been hoaxed.

I think they've caught this guy but the story is being kept quiet. The dine and dasher's parents own a restaurant in Avenida down south and I think he works there part time as a bartender.

Must be a pretty big POS to steal from other restaurants when your family owns one.

That's awesome. Nice to see guys voluntarily picking up the tab for dine-and-dashers like the guy in this story. I usually prefer to base my tip on service rendered as a tip is a "service" charge.

So when one visits a fast food place, you pay beforehand even if it's a sit down place. The difference would be whether or not you're served your food although there are a few fast food places where you pay up front and still have your food delivered.

Good point ZenOps - why is it this way in most sit down full service places? Anyone know?

If I walk into a pub, order a meal and a beer and pay for it upfront, that's it. When I'm done those two items I'm walking out of there, or at the very least not ordering anything else. If I don't pay right away, I might have another beer when my first is done. I might have dessert after the meal. Maybe a game comes on while I'm in there so I think "I'll just stick around and watch it here".

All about money. Always is.

A lot of pubs will take your credit card if you want to start a tab. In San Francisco they all do it. There is a glass behind the bar full of cards. Same thing in Boston too.

They finally caught the dine and dasher

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/01/06/man-arrested-in-case-of-calgarys-dapper-dine-and-dasher

He didn't stick around for dessert, but he owners of a high-end Calgary restaurant say the dapper diner who dashed out on a bill has got his just deserts.

Muse owner Heather Wighton said in a release Monday a man has been arrested in the case, which may be tied to similar incidents at other high-end haunts in Calgary.

A few weeks after the November incident, Muse co-owner Stephen Deere was brought into a police station to view a photo lineup.

“After looking at several photos, I identified the man instantly,” said Deere.

Wighton says the man is due to appear in court this month.

“The public was such a huge support, he wouldn’t have been caught without their help,” said Wighton.

More to come ...

Ha. None of my dine or dashers ever caught that sort of publicity. I bet the camera footage of one of my sous chefs dragging one off the patio wall a few years ago would have been a hit on youtube.

Glad they caught the guy

Hit and miss. A few weeks ago our waitress at Schanks asked for one, happens rarely I'd say.

I run tabs weekly at Craft, National, Roosevelt and nearly every summer weekend at West patio. Every one of these places take a credit card to start a tab.

Maybe if you go there, eat dinner, have a table, group, etc. In that case I never get asked.

But when I show up at midnight with a large group, am not sitting, am ordering rounds of drinks, roaming the bar, going in and our for cigarettes then I think it's pretty normal.
