Job Description:
The IT Lead is accountable for end-to-end delivery of IT for a portfolio of Capital Projects.
The IT scope in a Capital Project typically covers the deployment of a broad spectrum of applications, execution of multiple IT infrastructure projects and managing the provision of IT support services to the user base. The Capital Project IT Lead is a key position that requires breadth and depth of IT skills.
Requirements:
Must have legal authorisation to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Must reside or we willing to relocate to the Calgary, AB area.
Principal Accountabilities:
Develop knowledge of and ensure all activities associated with infrastructure delivery for the projects are in compliance with relevant Shell safety requirements (this includes self, Shell staff and 3 rd party service providers). The IT Delivery Lead is required to demonstrate visible leadership as well as personal commitment to Health, Safety, Security and the Environment.
Develop knowledge of and ensure compliance with Shell’s Discipline Controls and Assurance Framework (DCAF) as relates to all IT delivery. This includes producing specific deliverables, gaining approval for them and conducting activities required by DCAF as well as providing input and reviews to other discipline areas where appropriate to drive successful IT and IM for the projects.
Develop plans (including budget, resourcing plan, schedule, etc.) to successfully deliver IT needs to projects and track progress against plans.
Develop, maintain and execute an application roadmap to align IT within the Capital Projects portfolio with Shell’s global standards and the asset strategy.
Develop awareness of and engage with key stakeholders on the projects teams to understand and capture requirements for the successful delivery of IT to the Capital Projects. Manage communications to stakeholders as and when appropriate to maintain a positive relationship.
Develop and then, where appropriate, leverage relationships with key stakeholders to enable successful IT delivery for the projects.
Influence and leverage internal IT organizations and navigate processes to ensure successful delivery of IT to the Capital Project.
Champion arrangements across a matrixed IT organization and their subcontractors and suppliers to enable effective and efficient delivery processes for capital projects through continuous improvement and anticipating risks to successful delivery.
Develop awareness of/Anticipate events and risks in a dynamic plant construction environment impacting delivery schedules and develop and, if appropriate, execute mitigation strategies, contingency plans and remedial actions.
Develop an understanding of business impact from IT service failure. Drive resolution of IT issues across multiple support organizations in a timely manner.
Lead a team of resources (some dedicated, others part-time). Coach, mentor and guide team as and where appropriate. Coordinate resource utilization across multiple activities.
Manage and where appropriate, group into delivery packages, multitude of individual requirements across multiple capital projects to ensure timely delivery of services to the respective capital projects.
Keep Capital Projects IM/IT Manager appraised of key activities/plans, progress, issues/challenges and opportunities.
Produce/provide input into periodic reports where required on IT.
Ensure successful IT delivery throughout the lifecycle of the project. Drive synergy across portfolio of Capital Projects.
Identify and deliver opportunities for innovation to improve IM/IT delivery to Capital Projects.
Orchestrate the execution of the IT programme according to the Shell Project Delivery Framework, meeting the agreed budget and schedule targets. Maintain alignment between the individual IT project execution schedules and the Integrated Project Schedule.
Special Challenges:
Cost pressures, multiple EPCMs, difficult remote site (provisioning challenges), mining operation (unique in Shell).
Calgary based. Travel to Calgary FEED offices and Shell field locations.
Experience and Qualifications Required:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Management Information Systems.
Minimum 10 years of years of related experience.
