http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2013/12/12/fed-comes-out-against-replacing-1-bills-with-coins/

"The Fed estimates that over 30 years, the U.S. government’s costs to produce $1 coins exceed the costs to produce $1 notes by $6.9 billion."

Anyone who has even seen a modern $1 US coin would probably mistake it for a Loonie.

And even though the $1 US coin itself currently only has six cents worth of metal in it, its still cost-prohibitive for the US to produce and maintain.

Canadian money FTW.

$1 coin? forget that! The US is more apt to start producing 100 trillion dollar bills soon

I have one of the $1 coins, and it's actually hard to spend it in the US. Nobody wants it.

My parents spend the winters down south. Dad says he's up to a couple hundred bucks in US $1 coins. Says he can't give them away, nobody will take them. Here's the best part the vast majority of his coins were given to him by the local branch of Bank of America when he exchanged another currency, they assured him there would be no issue using them, since then he's tried to exchange the coins for bills at the same branch and was told "we'd rather not"

I think the gardener, pool guy, and pest control guy are all getting Christmas bonus' in $1 coins this year.
