Just wondering how much you guys make a year and in what particular field, and your degree of education

ExtraSlow

If you want salaries for engineers, Apega puts out a "value of professional services" report every year that shows average and range of salaries for different industries and job levels.

It's pretty comprehensive.

Other than that, you should know that everyone on beyond.ca makes over 100k per year, and most of us make 250k plus.

kevin, how much do you make? If less than 100k, you're not allowed to be on this forum. Please let us know so the moderators can proceed accordingly.

Surprisingly useful response to a completely retarded post by the OP.

To add, a lot of professional organizations do similar surveys like the one Extra noted above; the CICA for example, does as well.

my wife did a loan for a guy up in the Mac as a heavy machine operator for a service company

base salary? Measly $55k

Overtime and other benefits $77

total = $132

Aggregated, as an annual salary, thats allot of coin.
Allot of banks however do not recognize overtime as a consistent salary, and that often requires them to find "creative" second tier lenders who will easily over-leverage these idiots into ridiculous homes they will never live in, and toys they will never use, cause they're never home.

Factoring in his 3 and 1 schedule... that is ONLY 12 weeks of a year TOTAL that he is at his home with his family.

maybe he only works 12-15 hours a day at camp, you're still there regardless. Its not like you can just go and sleep in your own bed, or go play shinny with some buddies at the pond. You're stuck lifting weights, jerking off to an ipad, and eating cafeteria food.

I'd rather work 37 hours a week, crack 6 figures and not live life like an inmate.

Spending time up North in a decent camp for 10 days, and come back home 4 days.

Thats not really what I meant. Certain companies have different rules. I talk to contractors on site and some have the same schedule, some don't,... some get paid 300 per cheque to take the plane (all tickets covered as well), some get nothing.

Some get better camp accommodations... it's all to do with cost.

Like I said, depends on which company you work for.

That's what Miami is all about a friend living down there told me, most 'ballers' you see in Ferraris and Lambos cruising Nikki Beach and Ocean Dr have literally poured all their money in their one exotic car, they don't live in it but own this Italian supercar then go home to sleep in a dump shack.

Down there, it's what you look like to the public out and about is what matters. as GTS said depending on your environment, he is exactly right.

How have your parents, who can afford to buy you an Audi and manage to wrangle you a decent amount of blue-chip stocks, not told you to quit your job and find a real employer? If you went to a post secondary institution and you're working as an accountant, and you're employer is only paying for $35,000/year, you're being taken advantage of, IMO. I'd get the f*$% out. Maybe I'm out of touch though, but to me, that makes no sense.

+1 for admitting that mommy and daddy paid for the car. My parents paid for my university, which I really appreciated when the majority of my friends had gross debt levels after graduation. With that said, there isn't a chance in hell they'd buy me a car. To each their own though. The way I see it, most of us have had 1000 x more advantages than our parents ever did - I'd feel to guilty ever asking my parents to bail me out (not saying that's what you did) when they put me through uni, which set me up with a career to earn really good money.

Did you really need to list your blue-chip stock value though? Kind of a douchey/immature move, IMO. Some of my wealthiest friends (multi-milionaire company owners 100+ employees) are the most humble, least flashy guys I know. Will they pick up a huge tab when we go out every so often? Yes. Do they make a big deal out of it and make you feel like shit because of it? Not a chance in hell.

Just checked... Its now worth $72,250 after today's stock market.... Stocks recently went up so much thanks to the Canadian dollar tanking, and most of my stocks are in USD

Yes, usually the ultra-rich are very humble people.. I don't tell people in real life, but I am anonymous in this forum. And no, my parents only contributed $10,000 in 2007 to get me started in the stock market in the beginning... the rest were from capital gains, dividends, and part-time jobs.

Felt like post-secondary education wasn't worth it either... However, I'm hoping to earn around $45-$50k after having 5yrs of work experience..

You appreciate what you have and you're better with your money because you're pretty much forced to.

I seen people who are really young at these (oil) companies who were put in high demanding position and now they are miles ahead of others at a young age. People can do a LOT of things; it just depends if they have the will to do it, and most of the time it seems that their family situation is a big motivating factor. I know it certainly was the case for me.

To be honest, a young person can end up being a deadbeat with amazing parents, or an amazing person with shitty parents. Sometimes it cannot be helped. A young person doesn't need to go through hardships to learn, and of course it doesn't mean the parents did a bad job. But, it does make it so much easier. Think about life in general. How does one really learn something that they won't forget? Through experience.

I think most of us are just saying that those who have gone through hardships typically have their shit together due to said hardships.

But you have a point in that of course it can be taught. How effective it is, is another story.

Key word there is seemingly. My buddies and I used to do it all the time if anyone's parents helped them out - "nice of mommy and daddy to do that for you." With that said, U of A tution was about $20,000 - that's what they paid. They paid it because my grandma requested it in her will (she had farmland that she was renting out and wanted sold after she passed). We weren't well of while I was growing up and I learned the value of a dollar when I was young. Since I graduated high school, my dad ended up growing his company and my parents have >1 mil put away. Do I regret they paid for my university? Not one bit. I learned my money lessons long before that. Too many kids going to university have no more money sense than a 5 year old.
