Netflix is recording their original shows in 4K for next season already.

I would say that the cable companies are going to be the hardest hit by this as their infrastructure struggles at 1080.

Not sure why someone would buy this over a projector unless they are forced to have it in a well lot area where a projector won't work...

...actually I have Shaw right now, they insisted I take it for free to see how amazing their TV services are... haven't even plugged the box in, I just can't stand TV ads anymore. When the free period expires, I will ask them to come pick up their dust box and GTFO
:werd:

Can't remember the last time I watched cable. If I didn't use shaw for internet then I'd tell them to fuck off completely.

Speaking of which, is there a way to get just internet that's high speed without going through telus/shaw?

Our projector works just fine in our main floor room. It doesent have to be pitch black. We throw about a 110" picture on a regular wall surrounded by light (have a screen ready to be installed in our new home).

4k projectors are between $15,000 and $30,000 right now. Still a shirt load of money, but almost a 10th of what these screens go for.

What type/model of projector is it? I currently have an Epson Powerlite 720 that is around 5yrs old and due to be replaced. My place has a lot of ambient light and it's not great during sunny days. I would to replace it with one that is better in that regard.

yes, but it costs more. i think telus charges an extra $5 a month for an unbundled service. you have an option of teksavy as well, which is just shaw or telus resold to the consumer under their banner.

Unless 60"+ screens become mainstream, 4K won't become mainstream. You can rarely see the difference unless you sit up close to the screen.

The only shows that make sense on 60" are travel and landscape type show you see on the demo reels right now on the 4K screens.

Although, I think 4K will have better traction than 3D.

If you are looking for awesome bang for the buck projectors that are also very bright, there are a few I'd recommend depending on the budget

Budget 2D:
Epson 6500UB/8350UB/8500UB (no 3D but it can be had for cheap and was a previous flagship) $999-$1400ish

Budget 2D/3D:
Epson 2030 ~$1,250
BenQ W1070 $800 (Unless you're sensitive to rainbow effect)

Great 3D/2D:
Panasonic AE8000 $2500
Epson 5030UB $2500 (better 3D of the two)

The Epsons especially are extremely bright projectors and have no problem in rooms with a bit of ambient light. You can also just get a little bit higher gain on your screen (1.3 or so) which will help. Check out carada.com for screens if you haven't already made a choice.

Also, the closer you can mount your projector to the screen, and the "wider" the zoom angle, the brighter it will be

As for 4K, those using projectors in their HT are going to see BY FAR the biggest gains when they come down to "normal" pricing (assuming a fairly large screen size).

As far as i know Nulceus DSL is just a piggyback from telus so you still have to deal with thier port banning and throttling.

Havnt heard any recent reviews of nulcleus tho.
