View Full Version : New Purchase - 2014 QX60 AWD - Opinions?

Just signed papers today for a 2014 QX60 AWD Premium, Theatre and Drivers Assistance package :D White exterior and Black interior - undercoating and 3M paint protection added.

I was originally looking for a much less expensive SUV (Santa Fe etc) but I'm used to driving an Infiniti (used to the luxury and refinement) and didn't like any of the Hyundai's or Kia's - especially the interiors. Drove the pathfinder which is nearly identical inside but seemed lacking in a little bit of refinement it seemed and NO HIDs / LEDs?? wtf Its 2014... also - found slightly more wind noise than normal. The fully loaded pathfinder was about $48,500 - about $9000 cheaper than the JX but no technology or intelligent safety systems available on the Pathfinder.

Anyway, I would have much preferred a used one but nothing was on the market for a good price... dealer also had no new/used 2013s left. Also, used car rates for finance were a lot higher and resulted in almost identical monthly payments. We wanted the panaroma sunroof but due to the way they package the 2014s now, you cant get the pano sun roof unless you buy fully loaded (extra $5000 or so)

So I was wondering who on here has one as well or has driven one? - just curious to compare opinions.

Most impressive feature in the car is distance control. While on the test drive, the salesperson said don't bother hitting the brakes at the red light where there were two cars waiting.... I just looked at him and was like "... Wha....??" The car stopped itself! Far enough away that it didn't scare the shit outta me. Very impressive - same applies when backing up.

Lots of room in the SUV and while it stretched my budget to the max for a vehicle, it just appealed to me... and I was able to negotiate off $2k. Since it is brand new - I plan on keeping it 10 years or so... my 8 yr old Infiniti M still gives me little to no problems out or regular maintenance. :D

Cheers

Haha wow, I'm surprised he tested that on another car and not a wall or something. Pretty ballsy to needlessly do that to an occupied vehicle.

Nice car though, I like the QX's. I have been in them.

I hope you didn't pay an "admin" fee (100% cash grab) or for the 3M/undercoat, otherwise it sounds like you're pretty happy with it which is all that matters.

Congrats, when do you pick it up? How do you find the engine/CVT combo for merging to highway speeds?

I've been considering a Pathfinder/JX/Qx60 for a while now but the CVT is still somewhat holding me back. It also bothers me that they bundled the panoramic roof with the theatre package.

No offence but the QX60 is ugly

Hopefully they've fixed the CVT. It's been giving problems in the new pathfinders. Still a way better choice than anything from Hyundai or Kia imo. .

haha ya .. my thoughts when he suggested to test that was - "Why not... not my car yet" :D

The discount I negotiated nullified the addition admin fees and 3M/undercoat costs...

I found the CVT ok.. I didn't find it annoying... its a safety / family oriented SUV so I won't be driving it with a heavy foot like my M. I found merging speeds/acceleration marginally slower than the 2012 FX35 that I also drove...Surprisingly... In the SNOW mode it doesn't let you stomp on the gas that easily - you have to press further down (Eco mode negates even further the lead foot syndrome)

I had no problems speeding up to 120 to merge on deerfoot.

I pick it up sometime next week..

my mom has one of those things... kind of a shitty ride/seat comfort for what i'd expect out of a "luxury" SUV... never understood the boners people have for infiniti, i guess its still better than an acura though :dunno:

lol no offence taken.. to each his own.

I could've lived with the looks of the pathfinder if it had at least HID lights... (or if I would've found an aftermarket headlight w/ projectors) But small things are noticeable to me - such as the pathfinder door sounds cheap when you shut it.. as opposed to the JX. (even though they look almost identical)

They definitely don't drive/feel as good as something like a BMW but reliability is better and they're a good bang for your buck. Acura's are boring as fuck and almost every lexus reminds me of a Toyota when I sit in it.

That's why I keep going back to them at least.

I am not so sure about BMW's drive/feel because I drove a 2010 BMW 750 fully loaded a couple of years back to compare to a 2011 Infiniti M56x and the Infiniti felt like a more refined ride. It could be that the BMW I drove had a mechanical issue or bad wheel/tire combo ... but on that day I stopped caring about BMWs (although I considered briefly a used X5 over the new QX60)

Agree with Acura = Boring (and styling is not their forte)
and Lexus = Ugly w/ Toyota Interior

Congrats!

I was going to look and test drive the new QX60 but it needs refinement on their drivetrain.
I ended up spending a bit more and grabbed an X5

Also I think many people would disagree with your assertion that the FX looks better.

I was talking about looks only. I know that reliability, resale and safety are class leading. It was my opinion.

The original post that I quoted was just as weird as mine, OP asked for opinions on the vehicle he bought and the guy I quoted just wrote rx.

The rx has barely changed since 99, it's just mild facelift after mild facelift, and the interior looks like it's out of a corolla.

Not a big fan of the QX60, but I will say it beats the hell out of a Dodge Caravan.

I do like the FX but safety wise, like someone on here just mentioned, the visibility is not that great and space is not really there...

I actually like how the QX looks - but would've been nice if it had the 3.7 with more power/torque and a 7sp but then again, U don't buy one of these to go fast...

I love the interior (at least the front portion) of the QX60. Not a big fan of the rear seats - which while comfortable are on a track system to move forward and back and seems a bit cheap to me - it is identical to the pathfinder (even the reading light on the rear doors is identical to the pathfinder) But OVERALL, it is quite a bit more refined than the pathfinder.

Thanks all for your opinions. I pick up the vehicle on Tuesday!

wait... the FX/QX isnt a grocery getter?

For the price/resale/reliability/finish/ everything else that's not subjective like looks, the RX kills everything else that's on the market.

Re-design was in 2010 btw.

To OP: if you feel that the QX is for you, then go for it, who cares what everyone else thinks.

that's a 08 vs. a 11. you call it a redesign, I call it a minor facelift.

I usually buy cars for driving experience and IMO the fx (especially the fx50s I recently drove) kills the rx. You can't have any fun with an rx and btw, resale of fx's is great too.

I am wondering why you did not pick a 2014 Acura MDX instead???

$4,700 Holiday Bonus incentive until January 2

I was going to pull the trigger on one with Technology Package, OEM extra winter wheels, Sport Luxury Package, all-weather mats, tow Package, Backup Sensors, and 3M Front Protection Film (about $10K of added packages on top of Tech Package)

Negotiated down to $65K even

$2,000 off on a $60K vehicle is bare minimum, granting you paid extra for Undercoating (why do you need this BTW?) and 3M Front Protection Film

New engine, new chassis, new transmission, new interior, new body over the redesign. I dont know what you are getting at...

You can say the same about the evolution of any car... the new ML "looks" very similar to what it was in 1998....

More like they nullified your discount with the admin fees and upselling.

Negotiate discount, refuse all upselling, doc fees, admin fees. Go over the pricing sheet and cross out where they add wheel locks, nitrogen in tires, and tell them to do it again. These are all a bad deal, always. I sure hope you didn't get the prepaid maintenance :) If so, you have 60 days to cancel, and you should.

With the JX I was already at the top of my budget so the MDX would've run me an extra $6 - $7k. I do like the rear of the new MDXs but I am not a huge fan of the interior.

Yes I probably could've negotiated a little bit more off... I got carried away and had already been at the dealership for a second time for over 2 hours :(

I did not get a prepaid maintenance but got 2 free oil changes so that should hopefully last me the year...

I spent the whole day measuring and organizing the garage (double car - 20ft on the outside I think... about 18' inside wall to wall.) With my motorcycle still in the garage and my M35x, I think its going to be a VERY TIGHT fit in there.

Hence my bike is posted up for sale - about time anyway.. I only put 800kms on it last year. :(

Sounds like the dumbest shit ever. Gives way for more distracted driving. Let's just eliminate the brake pedal all together and only have 1 pedal so driving is less complicated and more driver's licenses can be handed out for free than we already do now. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

While I myself would not allow technology to make me a more distracted (or worse) driver, its nice to know that the safety net is there in case it's ever needed.

But I can see how some drivers would be too laxed due to all this tech. I wasn't impressed with the salesman (who seemed reasonably smart until he said this..) when he said - "You don't need to adjust your mirrors, you have blind spot monitors...."

Yes and no, it will take the retards who consistently and constantly make mistakes on the road, off from driving (as well as those who cant put their phones down) and create room for us who DO want to drive.

PROPER driver education is not a priority in this continent so thats not going to change (as much as we'd like it to) therefore the next step is to remove these people from active driving. They are not going to change their habits, or improve their driving behavior.

Personally, I would prefer NOT to be hands on in stop and go traffic on Glenmore or Deerfoot. This is where these systems win.

I think they expect you to still pay attention, but that isnt how it will end up. It will be a great feature for already skill-deficient soccer moms who want to be able to text and do their makeup while driving, and will not accept any responsibility when they hit a biker, pedestrian, or child that strays a bit too close to the white line.

Serious question - What is the point of this, really? What are you freeing up your hands to do exactly?

Stop and go. You are supposed to keep your hands on the wheel. Lieberman was just showing that you can "no hand it."

Hate to say it, but it is coming in full force. The new 2015 C-Class will have it and it is only a matter of time before it will trickle down into the entire model range.

Yeah it is coming for sure. I don't even like back up sensors, I can park closer using the mirrors but the sensor is screaming in my ears that i'm about to die!

There should be a pride in having the skill to properly operate a vehicle, but that is already out the window, now you are looked down on and seen as "aggressive" because you can actually drive.

When I started driving I remember highway speed being ~10 over the limit, now, at least here in the Okanagan it is consistently ~10 under, with half the drivers looking terrified as I rocket past them at double their speed while feeling like I'm just cruising slowly along.

I for one welcome our new self driving robotic overlords.

It sounded like he said in the video that it does work above 60km/h, just that it uses lines on the road as a guide instead of a car in front of you.

I guess, machines might make mistakes that a driver could correct, but will they make more mistakes than humans do? Consider it not from the perspective of your own driving skill and attentiveness, but the general public.

Also the deer problem is a non-issue because they also have infrared cameras that detect heat signatures well enough to differentiate between humans and animals :bigpimp:

No real data but I think it save us from more morons than it creates.

Almost 2 decade later after mandatory ABS, does anyone still pump their brakes in winter?

Then comes mandatory ESP so people won't flip their SUVs.

Automatic braking is next on the mandatory list and once you have that, you already have 80% of the hardware you need for autonomous vehicle.

It's kinda sad we lose controls along the way (no more manual transmission, drive by wire take away road feel) but for generations to come that don't give 2 shit about cars, there's nothing we can do about it.

From what I read they just renamed the m to a q so seeing as he already has an m in his garage he technically does already own one.

I don't even want to know what a optioned out q80 is going to go or, I priced a m56 out last year with most options + different oem wheels and an oem lip kit and it came to 91 before taxes and that model is below the q80.

I do have an M in my garage already - it is now the new Q70.

I think what KRyn was referring to was the QX56 which is now the QX80 - which is a gigantic SUV on the outside at least and an extra $20k.

FYI - There is a 2013 brand new M56xS on the showroom floor at Hyatt - with a $10,000 rebate at the moment. Probably can be negotiated down further. It is fully loaded with a 420hp 5.6L V8. If you do go there, ask for 'Nan' - he is a great guy to deal with.

Yeah Infiniti stupidly renamed every vehicle in their lineup to be Qsomething. And the number doesn't match the displacement anymore. G, M, EX, FX....all Q now. Someone in marketing overthrew needs a shake.

I neither agree or disagree with their new naming convention - I guess I'm pretty indifferent. Although it was nice when each model had its own letter (like before). BUT I can see their point where it would be hard to name cars when displacements change and they won't necessarily add more displacement for more power.

BMW and Mercedes have had this issue for a while where there numbers on the model designation don't match displacement anymore. A 335i does not have a 3.5L and a C63 does not have a 6.3L (actually for the C63, it never did. It started with a 6.2L)
