Anyone know why my engine warmer keeps tripping my outdoor plug??? I know it's not my house's problem because when I plug in my other Mazda 3 it doesn't trip it....need help from some of you with electrical knowledge..:dunno:

To be honest, I don't even know what to check for lol....what do you mean? I seriously know nothing about cords and plugs and what not..what should I be looking for when I inspect the cord?

Is the trouble-free Mazda 3 using the exact same extension cord and AC plug outlet? If yes then the extension cord/plug outlet is OK. It makes sense that you have a bad cord from the block heater to the male end that sticks out of your grill/front of the vehicle. Needs to be replaced, mine was $60 at the dealership. I could not be troubled to install it myself.

Had the same issue and it turned out to be the end male plug of the block heater cable. replaced the male end and added some silicone for water resistance and it has been fine for 5 years.

Cos, if you do head over, I have some dielectric grease you can take for the plug.

Check the resistance and check to see if it is shorting to ground.

Haha ya...I have no clue what you guys are talking about now...thanks for all the offers of help though, I'm just gonna leave it for now, this is my gf's car and apparently it has been starting fine this whole time when we thought it was plugged in, the Mazda 3 uses 5W20 oil which helps a bit and also the battery in her car is pretty new, I went to start the car this morning and it started the first time although it took a few seconds of cranking... I don't plan to keep the car for much longer and it's not worth very much, $3500 tops...

Disconnect the power cord at the engine block, the try the power cord to the wall outlet, if you get no trip with the actuall block heater disconnected, then the heating element in the block has shorted, and will need to be replaced. If the breaker still trips with the heater at the block disconnected, then replace the Power chord.

A resistance, or continuity check will give you a low reading as the circuit is technically grounded, and depending on block heater design you may get 4ohms or 20ohm of resistance on the DVOM.

My car is a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. I'm the second owner, had it for about 2 years and have never had any problems with it. Just last wednesday my heater was working fine. The same day (day before thanksgiving) we took a road trip to my grandma's, drove about 4 hours, and halfway through the trip it just stopped working and hasn't worked since. It just blows cold air. There's plenty of coolant so I know that's not the problem. I don't know too much about cars and won't be able to take it to a mechanic til this weekend, so I'm hoping maybe someone can help me out in the meantime. It's supposed to be 27 degrees on Friday. :(
Any help is appreciated, and thanks!
