Hwy. 40 in western Montreal was shut down Monday after a piece of concrete fell from an overpass, striking an SUV below.

Nobody was injured when the concrete block struck a BMW with two women inside, almost splitting the hood in half.

"It was a big block of concrete," said the driver. "It scared us."

Other vehicles sustained flat tires from driving over the debris, police said.

Inspectors and engineers with the Ministry of Transport are investigating.

Police could not immediately say if the concrete was a part of the Henri-Bourassa Blvd. and Hymus Blvd overpass itself, or if it came from somewhere else, like the cargo of a passing truck.

Holy shit, if it was from a Michael Bay movie it would be in two pieces.

All the old concrete structures in Montreal are pretty sketchy looking if you ask me.

^Word. After hearing all these stories on the news and you start looking at them, there are some reeaaalll sketchy overpasses there.

I would try to speed under them, but I was worried the rumble from my exhaust would set them off..

I sure hope our Ring Road doesn't mirror these other ill fated SNC Lavalin construction projects.

You guys recall the bridge colapse in 2006 and 2000 - quebec wasn't doing proper inspections or repairs/maintenance for over a decade...

Quel Surprise!

Errrr... exactly how bad are the overpasses, that you can't tell whether or not a giant chunk of concrete is missing from it?
