I got to see a longer trailer at the top gear live in Scotland last weekend and was so stoked to see the new season. They had a few bits that weren't in the trailers but I was too slow to get my phone out and catch any of it. Gonna be another awesome season

Last night's episode seemed way too scripted. I know that the show is pretty heavily scripted, but last night's episode was as if they were reading lines or something. Hope the rest of the season brings back some the random banter and actual fuck ups that make the show so fun to watch. Come on, vinyling the keys? Give me a break.

Definitely agree with this, it was pretty disappointing how obviously staged everything was. Even the explosions parts...pretty funny, but not true to the TG spirit, or whatever.

great representation of how wide that 4C is, just think, with some healthy upgrades that may well be a spectacular car around a track.

Mibz
02-13-2014, 01:31 AM
If it doesn't start out as a spectacular car around a track then it's missed the mark. You can get a Cayman or an Elise for the same money. One is a better GT/daily car and the other is obviously an amazing track car. I feel like the Alfa might be the worst of both worlds, for the same price.

A car having 1000ft/lb of torque in a mid-engine style car on a wet track? You will never have traction.

Even on a dry road I would say the only possible way of getting any traction would perhaps be with DOT slick tires.

The car is too light and has to much power to be decent without traction control.

Could be many ways to do this. Id imagine air pressures up through the wheel hub itself which is built into the wheel.... Few automatic shut off and bleed down valves. piece of cake... :dunno:

I quite enjoyed tonight's episode. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't test the A45 though... I realize that's because it was out of the price-range of the others, but could they not have just tested it against a Golf R instead of the GTI? (Also, price-range has never seemed to stop them before...)

Also, I thouroughly enjoyed Jeremy's digs at Piers Morgan (does everybody remember that hilarious twitter fight?) :poosie:

benyl
03-03-2014, 09:21 AM
I know it is an entertainment show, but the hot hatchback section was dumb.

Discount the A45 because it is too expensive? Yet they tested the Zenvo a few weeks ago.

Jeremy spins because the rears are all worn out from all the dorifto he was doing with the car. Of course it is going to hydroplane out of control. That segment shows why getting a flat / losing control of the rear at speed is more dangerous than losing the front.

So Jeremy spins, because his rears are worn out so that automatically makes the M135 worse than the GTI?

They're just waiting for Porsche to sell all 918 copies of the 918 before allowing a comparison. If they aired a comparo last night, they'd be stuck with a lot of orders lol.

Seriously tho, it sounded like the P1 vs 918 is going to be more than a stig hot lap. Sounds like a full on special.

Didn't they have a 918 in the studio? I can't remember for sure, but I thought they had one sitting inside.

But like Rage said, looks like they want to do a special based entirely on the 918 and P1. If only they could get a LaFerrari involved too.

rage2
03-03-2014, 09:58 AM
The LaFerrari hasn't even started production, it's been delayed over a year already. My guess is all the powertrain engineers have been reassigned to the F1 power unit project.

Now that the F1 PUs are locked down on specs, we should hear news of resumed work on the LaFerrari shortly.

I got the same vibe too. Probably have reps talk about the technology and then have a cruise somewhere to showcase the cars. Then do the hot lap with the Stig behind the wheel.

not the same as the others though. The LaFerrari motor will never shut off because the V12 is so key to the Ferrari experience.

Probably waiting for better weather to run a ahead to ahead comparison of the P1 v 918, personally I like the back end of the 918 and the front of the P1.....

Like others mentioned why rule out a car because of price? must be some other reason like MB don't want Jennifer driving it.

Rear/mid engine cars burn off fuel more often than front engines cars, short exhaust lengths leads to much higher outlet temps. That and Abu Dhabi at night really exaggerates the effect. Flames that you don't see in the day show up at night. Really obvious in F1 races.

The flames are the result of a fueling strategy employed to keep the catalyst safe from elevated EGTs combined with a very short exhaust system. I do know that. I was just curious why he thought the 918 wouldn't shoot flames when the P1 and Aventador do...

That much power on two wheels is definitely going to be a handful but the Huayra is RWD and it's up the top of the leaderboard. I'm leaning towards the P1 because two cars (including the Huayra; other is the MP4-12C) in the top 5 are RWD with the Aventador (AWD) placing 5th.*

They were saying that with the amount of downforce the car has it would rip its back end apart if the rear wing didn't adjust.

2 wheels with that much power? No problemo.

Northern Burma seems like really beautiful place for sure. Loved them partying with the Shan State Army, even if it was with the United Wa State or Kachin Armies, BBC would make them look good anyways since no one cares for the new Burmese government even if they are a little more lax now.

I'm surprised that Hino broke down so much, those things are usually tough as bricks in my experience, the ones sold here and in Asia.
