In my most convenient dealer with a most pleasant salesman, I have two choices for a car for my wife:

2008 Jeep Compass North (AWD or 4WD?), 60,000 Km

2009 Hyundai Santa Fe (2.7L FWD), 120,000 Km

Both the same price and I received roughly the same insurance quotes for the two.

Which one of the two won't likely breakdown in a 5-year period (I'll be financing it for 5-years)?

Honestly I like them both. The jeep is pretty with nice features and at only 60k, it seems really fresh. But I read about alternator problems and electronic sensors going bonkers on Jeeps..

The Santa Fe seems to get high praises on the internet, although I consider 120,000 Km for a 2009 quite a lot.

Your thoughts?

The Santa Fe is actually a decent vehicle - but you're right... 120k is fairly well used. My Mom has one and she absolutely loves it.

The Compass would feel far better in the winter, I figure. But imo, it's typical Chrysler garbage.

yeah, $0 resale in 5 years... might as well lease something brand new with similar payments

Both are crap, but I'd take the Jeep as long as it has AWD or 4WD.

There's got to be WAAAAAYY better options for you out there.

I personally want a '08 or '09 Subaru Forester, but it's quite a challenge finding one with low mileage.

And of course, my wife doesn't want a car and when I mention the word "2010 Corolla," we fight.

What's your budget and what are your needs?

The only things I can tell so far is that your want an SUV, low mileage.

I'm sure some people on here will be able to find other options for you.

If it was a choice of only those two vehicles I would have to go Korean before the Jeep. As mentioned before, look around and do more research if you are looking to keep it for 5 years. Don't just limit yourself to one seller or one salesman. You're just asking for trouble.

OP, love the username. Your wife definitely has control, why even bother helping? let her make her own stupid choice

How are you getting a bank to give you a 5 year loan on 6 year old cars that will be broken in 3 years?
