My friend and I believe that it's the Alfa Romeo 156 sedan... a couple days ago it's parked on the 5th Ave in downtown. It's a surprise to us as recent models of A.R. are rarely seen in Canada. Even more surprise was that the car carries a German (or European) license plate at the back?!
Is it legal to drive a car around with foreign plate??

You can have the foreign plate for up to 3 months, if the driver is a student then I believe its as long as their study term is. The 156 are nice cars, too bad you couldnt get any pics of it

Wow ! 156 ! Yummy !

Best Handling FWD Sedan .. no doubt ! and I think they are the absolutely best looking small sport sedan in the world ! ( even nicer looking then a BMW ! )

I had a Alfa Malino ( 75 ) before ! still love it ! awesome car !

HAHA, my dad used to own many Alfas when he was young and when he heard it was here, he asked to see it personally to buy it. Disregarding the fact that I told him 20 times that he'd never be able to register it, he still went to see it. The car is cool, but has cloth interior and a turbo diesel engine. :thumbsdow the guy who owns it is from Austria and lived in germany, where he bought the car, nice guy. Wanted to sell it for 37K Canadian, good luck since no one here could ever buy it to drive it.

I saw the car today! It was parked at a townhouse complex across the street from Peter Lougheed. Of course, I took a detour just to snap a quick pic of the car! Good thing I had my camera phone on me! Apologies for the poor quality though.

The car indeed has a German plate, registration F-DMxxxx, F=Frankfurt, I think. The turbodiesel isn't a bad thing at all, so don't quite give it a thumbs down yet... Euro gasoline is very expensive, so it makes sense to have a turbodiesel! CAD$37K is a bit too expensive, I'm afraid... the V6 gasoline model might be worth that much! Yes, the car can be on foreign plates for 3 mths, but what's the owner gonna do with it afterwards?? BTW, where on 5th Ave might I be able to find the car?

No, not an alberta plate. Both front and rear carry the same Frankfurt registration. Naw, $37K won't get you 3 used 156's... maybe 2?! :)

The 1.9JTD turbodiesel engine is quite unique though... I was hoping that the car was the Selespeed model with sequential manual transmission.

Not saying the TDI is bad, just that it is not what my dad wanted and it is underpowered and sounds like ass..(as all diesels usually do)

Man I love that car!!!

When it came out I was in Europe (probably the late 90's), and I saw one painted in what seemed to be a Chameleon paint job - but it wasn't your average chameleon.. The damn thing was baby blue ---> baby yellow! It was utterly amazing!
