I have an Acer computer and monitor.

I used to have the computer hooked up to my Samsung TV via HDMI and it worked great.

That situation has now changed and I just unboxed the monitor that came with the computer.

I am using the monitor via VGA.

The monitor powers up but the computer won't recognize it at all.
It just says "No Signal"

I am wondering if I changed a setting in the computer so that it only displays using the HDMI output? Obviously it needs to be using the VGA output.

Certainly seems to not be "Plug and Play"

Any suggestions?

Dumb question but have you rebooted the PC WITH the VGA monitor connected yet?

I would test the monitor out by connecting it laptop and see if that works. If it doesn't, you might have a bad monitor out of the box.

I've opened a few bad monitors in the past.

Yes. I connected everything before booting the system up.

What I may try is buying a HDMI to VGA adapter.

OR I could connect it up to my tv again and see what the settings are.
(I was trying to avoid moving stuff around.)

This monitor has no HDMI input which is shitty.

Windows key + p changes the projector settings but I don't know if that's the issue

It's most likely due to your resolution. Find out the maximum resolution of your screen (e.g. 1024 x 768) and set the resolution to that setting before you plug in your monitor.

I'll give that a shot.

Thanks for the ideas.

F8 upon startup and choose VGA mode to check resolution issues.

Did you try the FN + F4 (I think it's F4) yet?

The first question is does the monitor respond at all when booting?
ie. is this a windows problem or a hardware problem?

Also i didnt know HDMI to VGA exisited! i would think they would be too incompatable.
If your still using VGA maybe its time to get out of the 90s.

Get out of the 90s? There are still tons of monitors with only VGA connectors. We have thousands of Lenovo monitors at work that still run VGA connections.

Also you are right there isn't such thing as a HDMI to VGA adapter.

Just so everyone knows... This computer isn't that old. I purchased it in Jan. of 2012. Why the monitor has no HDMI input is beyond me but I don't care. Just want it to work.

HDMI to VGA converter (Probably the proper term) :

To answer the question... I don't think the monitor did anything when I booted the computer up. Can't check for sure until Wednesday tho as I am working.

I had a Samsung monitor that did the same thing, there was firmware that needed to be updated on the monitor. Just google your exact model number and see what people are saying online, if you see the "No Signal" blurb floating around that is probably your issue.

Did you make sure the monitor was on the right input?
