Teacher charged with sex offences against teen boy

Calgary police have charged a teacher with sex offences involving a 16-year-old boy.

The charges stem from an inappropriate relationship allegedly between a 29-year-old female teacher and a 16-year-old boy who previously attended the same school.

The activity allegedly took place between August 2012 and November 2013. In a news release, police said the allegations came to light after a passerby reported “suspicious activity” involving the occupants of a vehicle in the city’s northwest.

Authorities have not disclosed the name of the school, saying the step is necessary to protect the identity of the complainant. Police said parents at the school will be notified by school officials.

At this time, police don’t believe there are any other victims involved in the case.

Police arrested a suspect on Thursday.

Jennifer Mason, 29, has been charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation by a person in a position of trust, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Although the general age of consent for sexual activity is 16, the Criminal Code forbids sexual activity between minors under 18 and adults who hold a position of trust over them, such as teachers and coaches.

Mason is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Feb. 28.

I'm going to take the risk of getting flamed here, but I wouldn't really be that offended. A couple years younger I'd feel diffrent, but a 16 year old girl sleeping with a grown man isn't really that morally indefensible.

Yah, but I see the hypocrisy in a different way myself, why is it so hard for people to imagine that a teenage girl, just like a teenage boy, or an adult women just like an adult man are both able to make sexual decisions, rationally and consciously?

Why are young women all treated like delicate flowers that need to be protected, you know women just like men are totally capable of making morally questionable decisions free of the coercion of a male.
