View Full Version : Poll: Do you think a 60" LCD will fit in a Civic sedan?

Having a debate with Beyond famous Ex-Honda super sales guy Sorath.

He claims he'll be able to fit a Sharp Aquos 60" (model # LC-60E78UN) into a 2012 Honda Civic Si sedan (4 door)

Rules are, he can NOT move the driver seat position (I ain't driving 2" from steering wheel)... Vehicle will be empty of other contents, all doors/trunk panels must be closed during transport, he can not cut up or modify the TV whatsoever. Cannot cut up the vehicle/vehicle's interior

Here's a preview of the space (Sorath have physically seen the actual 60 tv and vehicle)

I think it'll be easy $, not being a Beyond baller, his bet $ loss would help offset the price of this used TV I normally couldn't afford at retail price.

Anyways, it's ok if he wants call off the bet and admit defeat, I won't judge. We'll find out tmr.

I barely fit a 46" in the back of an 08 lancer. I vote no.

LOL Sorath is gonna lose $100 and then say something stupid like, I didn't know Honda re-designed the trunk blah blah, it would have fit on the 08's etc.

I bet it will fit.

Interior width: REAR SHOULDER ROOM 53.3 in.

A TV size (screen only) is diagonal, so I think it will fit in the back seat. It depends on the amount of frame around the screen. Removing the rear seat bottom will help for sure.

Large panel tvs should never be shipped laying down. The up and down motion can cause them to break or crack.

I fit a 55 inch in the back seat of my wifes a4 with plenty of extra room, I vote that it'll fit.

I bought a 55 and it didn't fit in my girlfriends Honda accord.
I want to see photos if you guys manage to pull this off without scratching or causing some sort of damage to the screen

Won't fit.

1. The doors don't open wide enough to get it in.
2. the 60" screen is too long for the trunk.

So unless your backseats all fold down, bring your truck lol.

Maybe if you take it out of the box

edit: wait, didn't see the trunk passthrough. It won't fit

That's what prompted to the $100 bet with Sorath... before we met up at the moving sale's house.

I asked Sorath "should I take my truck, cuz I'm interested in the TV" Didn't have time to dissemble the TV that night

The $100 winning will offset gas/time me having to drive home, switch to the truck anyways once he realizes he's lost the bet.

55" in box, plus a kids bike (hiding in the trunk there), with room to spare. Out of the box I can probably fit a 65".

You'd think it'd be OK in a Civic, but the problem is that trunk passthrough is terribly shaped, so I doubt even angled it would fit through there.

The Civic sedan doesn't have an Integra hatch back open angle neither... So I don't even think the trunk /passthru route would work. Only way I see would be using rear doors, rear seat area.

Off topic but I've heard from various sources that these large LCD panel's should be transported in an upright position - anyone ever had an issue moving a large LCD panel on it's backside?

I think their might be enough space in the trunk, but I don't think you can get it through the opening

I have a 2008 4 door Civic with the same trunk space shape and barely fit my 55" Samsung TV, like maybe a .5" extra space. The sales guy was pretty shocked when he saw my car but I said it would work haha.

Unless the box is a slimmer profile for Sharp I would say no.

Hence I think no...

Well is word of mouth good enough in this case? Were there any witnesses? Did you get it in writing etc.? You know car salesman, you have to get everything in writing although this is outside of his work habits are hard to break. Just saying.

I swear I can fit more shit in my fg2 coupe with the seats down than most SUVs.

However 60" won't. The magnet of the woofer is in the way as well.

you guys are forgetting that this is OUT OF BOX. I fit my 55 inch with box in my 08 civic sedan before. Now it is possible that honda has redesigned their trunk space since then. however i dont think they are stupid enough to decrease volume

speedog
02-17-2014, 03:25 PM
It's going to be doable - 60" LCD panel will be a minimum 37" in height and 49" in length depending on the bezel size and neither of those dimensions should be an issue as the pass-through area appears to be easily 37" in width and considering the rear legroom is just over 30" and you still have the trunk length to factor in, 49" in length won't be a problem either.

I transported the 55 inch Samsung down to the Stampede Dream Home in the back seat of my 2005 Civic coupe. A 60 inch might have theoretically fit in the trunk with the seats down but the opening into the back seat from the trunk is very narrow, way too narrow for a television laid on its back. No, it wouldn't fit.

haha, should've given him $50 for breaking the rules and then headed for BBT thereafter on him.

Well, it was somewhat do-able fitting a 60" without box in a Civic. We ended up cracking the screen though, so I guess the answer is it's not really recommended.

Sorath such a good sport, he returned his winning. I'll buy him dinner then.

im sure the screen will be more expensive (if even worth it) then moving it with a truck like recommended.

How did you crack the screen?... Did something hit it or was it just from bumps on the road and the weight of the screen itself?

It just wasn't possible to stand upward. It pretty much laid flat "shoved" on top of the rear seats with headrest removed, and butt against the back of the front seats. The dent (that cracked screen), I'm guessing from the fastener of the headrest.

Definitely a will never do it again event.

Why not lie it on it's backside instead of it's screen?

I just followed what sorath told me to twist. It was a heavy and awkward object that I'm sure at one point we all just wanted to get it stuffed in there.

Think we'll leave the screen face up technique for the next contestant though. I'm taking the truck on my next big screen purchase.

If it looks too big to jam into a tight space, chances are it'll do some damage.

Too late now but yeah, it's worth money in parts. I sold a smashed screen 42" LCD for $150 a couple years back
