Need some help as I'm entirely stumped.

Looking to buy my first new vehicle in about 3-4 months time...

Let's say Max price of 48k with obvious wiggle room at those stealer ships

2013-2014 model

Key points:
Performance
Reliability
Decent on gas
Aftermarket support
AWD, 4x4 or RWD ONLY

By aftermarket support I mainly mean exterior wise, motor will be untouched to keep warranty.

Basically a year round vehicle to smash through our crappy snow and something I can have fun cruising around in the summer and something that's highway friendly.

Can be car or truck or SUV...

Must be 4 doors

Lexus IS 250 or 350?

Can get either RWD or AWD
All start below 48k
Excellent reliability (it's a Lexus...)
Decent on gas
Lots of aftermarket support
4 doors

And it's not a VW :P

I can't think of much that fits your criteria more perfectly than a 2015 S3.

If you go used you can buy some pretty awesome stuff for $48K, even 1-2 years old it opens up a whole new category.

At any budget, it always makes more sense to buy a 1-2 year old car.

48k is enough cheddar to get you some awesome rides.

Yeah man, let someone else take the huge depreciation hit, and walk away with something you're quite happy about for around half to 3/4 of what they cost new. Buying brand spanking new is nice, but not so much financially.

Sugarphreak I like the way the Q5 looks but to me that's honestly something I'd only place my girl in haha.

I've actually never been this stumped on what to even look for with a vehicle purchase. Want to make the best logical decision I can...

Do they make the STI hatchbacks anymore?

How's the new EVO? The automatic or dual clutch whatever in them any good/reliable?

Remember I won't be touching warranty affecting components like ecu flashing, exhaust etc...

You can buy a nice 08-10 Jeep SRT8 and with the money left over, boost it. Lame and biased I know

Shlade
02-19-2014, 08:47 AM
Believe it or not I've been on the hunt for a SRT8 jeep for years

However the problems I keep running into is

1) I'll rip my own dick off if I get another black vehicle
2) dealers and private sellers asking stupid money for them
3) all high kilometres and again high asking price

Saw a super nice X5M that made me weak in the knees and quickly faint in the head when I saw the price tag

all these aren't too far from 48, or you could probably negotiate with the dealerships and some are private...

Thanks for the suggestion, Ryan but I'm looking at buying probably in may/June to save up some money for DP first.

Right now I'm just looking at suggestions for vehicles to try and then I'll see pros and cons for each...

So far on the list to check out and test drive:
-EVO
-Focus ST (fwd but figure I'll see how they are)

I'll be sure to add more to the list to try just keep the ideas flowing...

Keep the ideas coming...

I'll look into a SRT8 if I can find a really low km one but that's pretty hard it seems.

Also I'm looking at only dealerships FYI

I'd definitely look into 335i's. A lot cheaper then an M3 and can be made just as quick in a straight line for $500. Plus, you'd be able to get one with warranty, which seems important to you.

Where are you guys finding pricing on the CLA45 amg?

I see on Hyatts website that the regular one starts at 39 I could only imagine the AMG package is 55+

This may be of interest to you regarding the Focus ST, Motor Trend gave the WRX a landslide victory in the recent comparison:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/1404_2014_ford_focus_st_vs_2015_subaru_wrx_comparison/

I wouldn't be looking at either car though if you're willing to spend $50k.

CLA45AMG starts at $49,800 before any options, taxes, or fees, if you are OK with a base model (still would be tons of fun). Audi S3 is *supposed* to start at $44K, very well equipped. You can also get a 2008 ISF (though not AWD), M3, S4, RS4, C63 (not awd), etc.

lilmira
02-19-2014, 12:30 PM
There is a long line up for the CLA45 currently. You may not be able to get one anytime soon. S3 won't be here till late aug-sep the earliest. Supply will probably be tight in the beginning.

Here's my one and only issue with a STI...

I'm yet to see one last any high kms, most people
Get rid of them before they hit the 100k mark, I've yet to see many with over 150k with the stock motor in them (replaced factory engine under warranty)

I don't want that over my head with the engine blowing on me.

If performance is top of your list, the focus won't compare to the evo. The MR is like 48k tho so it isn't worth the price at all IMO. A bmw or Mercedes will provide 90% of the performance with a way better interior and build quality etc, etc.

They had a press release few days ago stating the starting price at 44k. That's as official as it gets at the moment. Seems to agree with the previously leaked price. We'll find out soon enough. Shop Amazon and they're cheap. The V is a pretty simple, bullet proof car...just some of the specific parts have Cadillac tax but nothing compared to modifying a Euro car.

I would recommend.
-used s4
-used 335xi
-new subaru wrx (270hp one)
-used g37x sedan.

The Audi and BMW might be hard to find a 2013 for 48k but they are good options

The Infiniti would be decent for you. That engine is proven solid and reliable. Only thing is the car isn't super sporty.

Order was placed last Monday, 3-4 weeks before they develop a vin and likely another 3-4 weeks probably before I have the car. Which is more than fine with me to avoid any snow this

No haggling on percentage it's just the deal they had going on. Went into advantage to check it out afte messaging a guy named Jordan on kijiji. He was awesome to deal with. Not pushy at all and knew his stuff with the cars.

I got the car for 35k all in taxes and everything.

They had a white one in Edmonton they could of gotten but I didn't want some punk driving it back here. And with me not being in a hurry just placing an order to get a brand new one made by ford seemed liked the way to go.

Funny, after I ripped on advantage I actually had a great experience there. The last 2 times I went in there I got 2 idiots for sales men that ruined the experience for me.
