Any idea what places might be open to catch this? From what I can tell the game is on at 5:30am Sunday morning.

Hmm, that's not a handy time at all. Some bars show early mornign soccer games (like the Ship), so maybe some will open early for this. I could use some fried eggs and beer on a sunday.

Just have to find a place willing to open that early. I called a couple of places and so far nothing.... :dunno:

Why would a bar open that early if they can't serve any booze? How are they going to make any monies? To bad, I was hoping to get drunk and be in bed by 10:00 am.

Why don't you just watch at home?

frozenrice

What's the fun in that? I could but I think it'd more fun being around a bunch of people to watch it. I remember how insane it was at the pub when Canada won the last men's gold medal. I know having no booze at 5:30 am won't be the same but better than nothing.

Liquor laws are regulated on a provincial level, city won't have any say in the matter.

So I guess you can either celebrate our victory or drown your sorrows.

I think most reasonable bars and bartenders would serve you liquor during the gold medal game at 6:00am regardless of what the law says. Give any of calgarys best pubs a call. I am willing to bet they will be open for them, and more than likely they will serve you liquor before 8:00am too.

I called around to a few pub/bars that also serve Sunday brunch to see if they plan on opening early for the game. The closest I have so far is Carriage House Inn. Manager told me to call him back on Friday morning. He said something along the lines that the kitchen opens at 6:30 am anyways, so it's just a matter of getting staff to come in an hour earlier that morning.

Just saw on the news that liquor won't be allowed until 10:00AM, places can open earlier with food service but no booze until 10.

No the question is are you going to stay up all night getting piled before the game and risk falling asleep; or wake up at 4:30 tired as shit to go watch it somewhere?

But will they be serving alcohol before 10 because that seems to be the main concern.

If you say so. I could care less about having booze that early in the morning anyways.....

Kunitz does not belong on this team. He's dragging down our best player.

But we should steamroll Sweden, did I hear correctly that their top 4 centers are out with injuries?

Edit: not correct but they are missing a few key players, zetter, franzen and henrik sedin

SilverGS

Yet they are still in the Gold medal game having beaten a team that has been playing quite well.

Even with the injuries Sweden is a dangerous team

I tried this today and it was impossible to avoid the score. It would be easier on a Sunday morning but I don't want to risk it.

I did the PVR thing for the superbowl. Just turn off your phone, don't listen to the radio, don't go on the internet. Easy.

Gold medal hockey worth waking up early for though.

Going to try shanks North. If that falls through, we have a buddy who lives nearby who will host us, but I'd prefer to get the atmosphere of the crowd.
