I'm glad there are so many poor people, after all that drives down the price I need to pay to have my lawn mowed. It's good to be in the 1%.

$1 income per year in the US might not be as bad as some think it is.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2012-11-27/when-work-punished-tragedy-americas-welfare-state

The chart is not bad at all for a single mother. A childless male gets the shaft on benefits however.

Haha call me stupid I still don't get the point of all this.. If you really wanted to what know true income equality is like, why not just move to North Korea?

Income inequality seem wide in US but if you consider the majority of the 1% made their money from other parts of the world outside of US, it doesn't seems so bad.

The question is, how to keep the 1% in your country/region to enjoy the trickle down effect.

Like my dog, pissing on a fire hydrant, hoping it "trickles down", and covers it all?

In modern economics in the "west", there is no "trickle down" effect. It's a myth and lie.

It is "trickle up". View the US economic data during 2001 to 2009.

AVERAGE middle class inflation adjusted income dropped. Middle class savings rate went from positive to negative. Household DEBT doubled. In fact, Public debt (government) also doubled.

The top 0.4%? They are the only ones that added to their wealth. And VERY substantially.

See? Trickle "up".

"Capital-ism" is simply a dictatorship, ruled my those with the most Capital. They can reduce their tax rates, create money from thin air, and create laws to get even more capital. Don't confuse this Marxist concept of "capitalism" with Smith's concept of "Free Markets". They are completely different.

Decent video by Robert Reich on how income inequality kills democracy.

You are confusing a lowly millionaire 'rich' person.... With the very top. Watch the video to know who we are talking about.

Also, it wasn't the rich that 'gave' you any of that. Whoever wrote that is an idiot.

If the 99% are so poor why do so many people around me on the average day smoke, drink, drive cars, eat at restaurants, wear designer clothes, have university degrees and walk around with smartphones?

You would think that if 99% of North America was that bad off that they would prioritize their spending a little bit better.

Who knows, if 99% of people stopped paying for overpriced coffee at Starbucks they might be able to bankrupt an evil corporation while saving some money in the process.

If people spent as much effort trying to better themselves as they do complaining about what other have, they'd be better off. Problem is that if you gave all the "have nots" a bunch of money to try to even things out, they'd be poor again pretty fast. You can't throw money at people who have a poor decision making process and expect it to work.

Haha are you kidding? That would take effort.

+1.

This is exactly why people who win the lottery almost always end back up where they started.
