View Full Version : Beyond's newest Sponsor: Industrial Elements!

Christian@IE

I'd like to introduce myself to the Beyond community! I'm Christian, the owner of Industrial Elements.

We're a home furnishings retailer with a twist: all of our pieces are rustic and industrial styles and most are made from reclaimed materials. Our products have a unique mechanical look and features that we think will appeal to car guys (and girls) like you.

So why industrial home furnishings & décor? Well, my wife and I live in one of the industrial warehouse style buildings downtown (as seen in the loft thread) and we were doing a bit of furniture shopping last year. We were looking for furniture styles that would compliment the features in our place. We visited dozens of stores and found virtually no selection; and the slim pickings that we did find were quite pricey. I was already running another import business so I thought: why not branch out into a new product line? We got the wheels in motion and here we are!

For the past several months, we've been working on our new store, which is opening on March 1st in The Core (Formerly TD Square). Now that we're in the final stages with our opening only a few days away, I wanted to let you know a little about us and announce our opening specials that are exclusive to beyond.ca members:

10% off + Free Delivery on all purchases throughout the month of March.
Please tell us you're a beyonder when you come check us out!

We encourage you to have a look at our website and have a look at the product styles while learning a bit about us:

www.industrialelements.ca

Feel free to post any questions or comments to this thread and I'll reply as soon as I can. Our first shipment arrives tomorrow so we'll be pretty busy for the next few days setting everything up before Saturday's opening but I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Here's a teaser:

We received our first shipment yesterday. I'll upload some pictures when I get a chance but with the opening scheduled for Saturday, we've been maxed out just getting everything moved in and working on final details.

Pretty bad ass!
What kind of pricing are we looking at?

Christian@IE
02-27-2014, 10:13 PM
The prices vary substantially depending on the item. It's impossible to even give a spread as we have pieces ranging from the $100 range to several thousand for large dining room tables.

We will be opening at noon tomorrow! Some of our initial inventory order is still in transit but we've got some pieces out on the floor. We expect the remaining shipment to arrive within the next few weeks.

That was our first choice, followed by nickel as a close second. Then we heard about you and decided that retailing furniture would be a safer option ;)

I'll be redoing my home office later this summer and will definitely drop by to look at desks, credenza, filing cabinet type stuff.

Anything currently in stock like that? I didn't see an inventory tab on the website, and it will be a few days before I can get downtown to take a look in person.

Christian@IE

We haven't cataloged our inventory yet and are still considering whether we will or not. Due to many of our pieces being unique one-offs and our inventory always evolving, it would be very difficult to keep an online catalog current as many items won't be back in stock once they're sold.

Despite commerce having evolved to the online platform, our business model is not really suited to that, and having the products online actually deters buyers from visiting our physical store.

We do currently have several industrial credenzas and filing cabinets in stock. There is a specific desk which is made from reclaimed sea cans, that we do carry but is not currently not in stock; it is the top image in the design link on our website. We are expecting a couple in our shipment scheduled for the second week of April.

It's been a busy couple of months since I last posted in the thread so here's some updates:

Facebook Page: We've just launched our new page and will be updating it regularly with sales, special promotions, and new shipment info. We're still a new business so we'd appreciate any "likes" on the page to help get the word out. Liking the page will also update you on any promos we have going on. Click here for Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/IndustrialElementsYYC)

Website: We were initially considering not having an online store or inventory listing to encourage people to visit the store. It's taken a few months to come to our senses but based on customer feedback, we're now working on updating the IE website with product listings and shopping cart. It will still be a while to work out some of the details, troubleshoot, and get it operational so in the meantime we'll keep updating the Facebook page with product shots and other info.

New Shipment: Our latest shipment arrived at the beginning of the week and is now on display. We have many new styles in the store including several with solid concrete slab tabletops. Due to space limitations for the new shipment, we've moved some of our previous inventory to a section at the back of the store for a...

Big Sale: Other than the special promotion for Beyond members when we first opened, we don't typically put items on sale. With floor space now at a premium, we've decided to mark many items down at 30-50% off. If you haven't been in yet, this is a good time to stop by the store to have a look at the selection of discounted inventory and new arrivals.

Art from Steel: I'm excited to announce that we are now the exclusive Canadian distributor for Art from Steel; a company out of Thailand that creates models and statues completely out of salvaged metal. We'll be carrying some inventory in the store but will also have their full catalog for special orders. The first shipment arrives in the last week of June but here's some samples of their work:

Feel free to post any questions. I'm looking forward to meeting new Beyonders!

Hey Christian. I'm looking for an office desk with very specific dimensions, just seeing if there's anything out there that meets the size requirements.

The area is 57" wide. It can not go any wider than that. I could go as low as 56" wide without wasting working space. In terms of depth, it needs to be 37" deep max, I can go down a few inches here, but again, I'd like to preserve working area. I'm looking for a simple table, no drawers or anything, I like lots of legroom underneath.

Do you guys have anything before I go looking at custom built? I've been to all the usual places and nobody has such an awkward size.

edit - oh and it needs to be able to fit through a small door opening haha. My office is accessed by a sliding door that's slightly smaller than a normal door. Sorry for being so needy.

Custom can get quite costly and takes a bit longer. I'm checking with my suppliers but the first one that comes to mind is this one:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t58/ChristianatIE/Industrial%20Elements/Desk2_zpsd59120f0.png

Chocolate brown; at 55" W x 35" D it's only 1 inch shorter and 2 inches less in depth than your ideal dimensions so you won't lose much work space.

It's actually an extendable dining table so the height is 31" and the corner legs will give you plenty of leg room. Since you'd only be using it as a desk, we can remove the leaf brackets for you on the bottom so you have the full leg room. Also notice that its designed so the leaf extends it at the end rather than the middle so when it is not extended you don't have a seam in the middle and can't tell that it's an extendable table. I can check as it may also be available in a pale ash colour.

There are also several other designs with the same dimensions: 55 x 35

If you don't want to lose that extra inch (really, what guy would?) then we also have carpenters that do custom work for us and will make one to your exact specs.

Christian@IE

Should also mention that the legs are removable on that one so it can get through any door.

Sweet, thanks! That size is close enough where it might just work. I'll swing by tomorrow to see what styles you have in that size.

What's the price on the table that you shown a picture of to get an idea? You can PM me if you don't want to post the prices. Just want to compare some of the custom quotes I've gotten.

Thanks again!

I'll be out of town this weekend leaving tomorrow so I won't be around if you stop by but if you find something you're interested in just leave your contact info at the store and I'll make sure we get you sorted out right.

Just make sure you post up any purchases on your reno thread!

Hi Cristian,

Check out 2point54 designs at 2point54.com. This is my friends company, they are inprocess of moving their manufacturing base from Victoria to Calgary. I think their designs and business model kind of fits with your offerings. Check them out, mostly one off stuf with some signature peices and all mostly that industrial style.

Thanks for the heads up. We already knew about 2point54 as they make great stuff. There may be an opportunity to work together when they relocate to YYC. Stay tuned.

PMed. We've been working with a few different local carpenters who have done excellent custom work for us. Depending on the size of tabletop you're looking for, it may be possible to mix and match different tops and bases which can work out a lot cheaper than custom.

Hey Christian looking for a sideboard with a doors and shelving with the filling dimensions 30" H x 26" D x 64-65" L. I'm not opposed to being a little higher. Looking for something in a dark stain and no glass on the doors. Could also be a combination of cabinet and drawers.

Sorry about the delayed response, I was out of town since Wednesday and just returned.

Our suppliers have tables that are up to 96" which still seats ten comfortably, giving each person a full two feet of space. I'm looking into whether anything that large is available and will update when I get the info.

By floor lighting I take it you're referring to tripod floor lamps. There's a few different options but we don't have any file photos and I'm not at the shop right now. Next time you stop by we can show you the ones that we have in stock.
