Was wondering if anyone uses a Mityvac to do their oil changes? Seems like a really nice tool for easy oil changes if you have a top mount oil filter.

This is it:

MV7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus

About $100 bucks online.

I have used one of these before. It works pretty well, but I no longer have a car that has an easy to access oil filter.

They sell this unit at Princess Auto: http://www.princessauto.com/pal/Funnels-And-Pans/7-1-2-Litre-Manual-Fluid-Extractor/8051633.p

It is slightly cheaper than the one you have posted and it will work.

not a mityvac but a generic fluid extractor. works great since i only change the filter every other change (as per acura's service schedule). you can probably do an oil change in 15 minutes.

i have pulled the drain plug to see how much was left after extraction and it was very little in terms of flow, maybe 20-30mL.

So with these fluid extractors do you pump from the top?
Do they pick up any sediments/metals in the oil?

These are standard practice for Mercedes, works very well!!

They do. One thing I've found is that the shape of the oil pan has an impact on the efficacy of the fluid extractor. If the tube can't reach into the corners and such, there will be more oil left in the pan. I've used one on an E90 335 and a mini with no problems/ complaints.

Yep, I had to buy one when I had a Merc S500 and it worked great. I didn't trust it at first so I extracted the oil, then went to the trouble of pulling the belly pan and draining the sump just to be sure, and no oil drained from the pan bolt at all. I suppose it would depend on the shape of the pan and where the tube lands though.

We used a similar sump extractor at the stealership for most of the used german stuff, used it myself on an E39, really good investment with a top mounted oil filter as said.

Nice I'm gonna buy it.

Just curious, why is this better than just removing the drain bolt? Why does a top mount filter make it any different?

If I use a mityvac it makes the job cleaner faster and safer. I don't have to jack up the car ever because my filter is top mounted.

Many modern cars have aerodynamic belly pans that make changing the oil from underneath a real PITA.

Bumping this up. Looking at getting one but just wondering a couple things. Do these work by feeding the hose down into the oil pan and sucking through there, or sucking up vacuuming it up through the dipstick leaving the filler cap open to allow air in to replace the oil being sucked up? Also I imagine they'll work with any car pretty much?

Smallest tube fits inside the dipstick tube and you crack the filler cap open to allow air in.

If you feel like doing a 2 hour oil change. Those things are slow as shit.

Bumping with my experience. Went out and bought this one from Princess Auto for $70 http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Funnels-And-Pans/7-1-2-Litre-Manual-Fluid-Extractor/8051633.p
Took about 10 minutes to drain the oil and left under half a quart of oil in the pan. Was quite nice being able to not climb under the car to change my oil for sure.

I used mine and it works perfectly. Worth the money. Didnt take to long at all, maybe 30 min total job for my 8.5 liters of oil. And its easy.... All you do is stand there and watch it flow.

Damn, I wish I would have seen this sooner. I have one that I would have sold super cheap to you. Too lazy to do oil changes myself.
