I think he is lying, sensationalizing to extort a few billion dollars of free handouts from the IMF. Personally I think they can hold out well into the next few years. Italy is not an unproductive nation - just a nation that overspends.

Me, I think a few smaller US Californian cities will fall this summer long before Rome does.
