These are coming whether you like it or not, but what are your thoughts on it?

In theory they should be safer and more efficient, so I think I'm for it.

Based on how bad the cars with drivers are, I'm all for this innovation.

If they can stay off the passing lane when not passing, merge properly, use all the headlights/signals properly, stay inside a lane, I think I'm ok with it.

I'm for it, there's some people that I know personally that have super low self-confidence when it comes to driving, they drive because they have to but fear it everyday and make dangerous mistakes because of that anxiety, I hope they have an option to buy one of these.

Unfortunately though, the common douchebage type will never get this type of car, we'll have to live with that forever.

Good point! The next version will gas you and take over control when it detects douchebagness.

I don't really know anything about these cars but would you trust a driverless car to drive you on a long road trip and sleep while it drives? Would that be legal or do you always have to be able to take over control?

I am all for it they will be safer then all the tools on the road now. They will be much more efficient both in seamless acceleration and in the fact the can drive much closer together, especially if they are able to network, which will allow them to effectively draft sharing wind resistance. Also by driving closer together the will require much narrower lanes than a human driver allowing more traffic flow through a given road way. Also DUI disipears effectively over night and no more shitty cab drivers.

As you can tell I'm pro self driving cars I really think they have the potential to change the way we live significantly.

http://www.reddit.com/r/SelfDrivingCars/ is a great resource for self driving car info

lol At first glance at the title I thought this thread was going to talk about the goofs that leave their car in NEUTRAL when they get home and the car rolls down the street...

boring yes, but sooo safe. and lets be honest, most drives to work aren't exciting anyways, so i would welcome the ability to sit back, be driven to work, read the paper and sip some espresso.

Anyone think of what it would do the economy?

This article makes a good point:

Fuck Taxi's. I'll drive to the bar, enjoy the ride, then have the car drive me home while I sit i the backseat making out with my date. Outstanding.

I think we are all confusing this subject with the public transit... :D
Jokes aside, I'm all for it. As long as it's more "safe and efficent" as its predicted to be

imagine the fluidity when the light turns green and all the cars leave at the same time.

Then you'll still have the one asshole driving a regular car while texting at a light... lol

Driverless cars - hell, I'm still wish the highbeam switch was on the floor.
