better lap times could be had with a wheel or joystick but I think it will be hard to get any further under a minute with just a keyboard.

this was just brutal to play and drive, didnt last long enough to get a time.

good thing I work from home some days ... :nut:

My cheating methods include attempting to cut corners through grass (fail) - starting from the far back wall of the main straightaway to get a higher speed across the starting line (limited success) and drifting (fail).

Yeah, I've tried a bunch of those as well. The key seems to just be to:
a) stay on track
b) do all your braking in a straight line before the corner
c) don't drop the speed too low to the point where the car is bogging out on corner exit or mid corner
d) try to avoid understeer

Other than that just the standard racing line applies, using the track width, hitting apex etc.
