So looking at getting away for a weekend with the GF and do some shopping at west ed. Looking for a nicer hotel. fantasyland hotel was the easy choice but its all booked up so looking for other suggestions as I've pretty much always just stayed at the radison in their buisness suites when im up there for work.

Delta has jacuzzi suites for 250 a night. Holiday inn has steam shower suits which I would prefer over a jacuzzi suite but was all booked up.

Any other suggestions?

I would stay at the hotel mac or the westin. I personally did not see the delta or radisson as being a quality hotel from experience.

Rooms @ Metterra on Whyte are nice.

Free Wine & Cheese every night from 5:30-6:30 too.

I stayed at the Varscona on Whyte and found it to be outstanding. Super clean rooms, good shower heads, free wine tasting w/cheese every Saturday night (all you can drink), and a decent complimentary breakfast with eggs, Belgian waffles, etc. Free covered parking w/plug-ins as well. It was about $150/nt if I recall.

I stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Edmonton West for Business and it was really nice. What Mitsu3000gt posted sounds nice too, but I never stayed.

Not too bad, the breakfast room is a tad small i found and it was hard to get a table when we got there a little later in the morning when I stayed there last year.

any thoughts on Matrix Hotel? the rooms definatly look the nicest out of anything posted yet.

Free drinks/food really not something I'm concerned with as neither of us drink much and were both picky eaters so buffets/continentals usually dont work out well. Definatly looking for a newer more modern hotel with good parking. Would be nice if the room had some sort of gimmick ie steam shower, jacuzi, patio, something of that sort.

Meterra seems pretty nice and am leaning towards it.

Matrix is sister hotel to Varscona, I liked staying there when I used my td points for a free hotel visit. I think its nicer that Varscona, but Varscona has better parking.

Metterra > Matrix > Varscona.

They are owned by the same company and Metterra is their nicest hotel.

Go for a King Fire or Water sweet, you will get a fireplace or waterfall in your room. Earth room is somewhat boring, but still nice.

I stayed there for 6 weeks and enjoyed it. Free valet, so parking is never an issue.

Being on Whyte is great too, it's only 15 minutes from West Ed and you can walk to many great restraunts in the area (Continental treat, Muriettas, etc)

No it is not mandatory. I asked to park myself and there was no problem.

I spend a lot of time each month in Edmonton and my company preferred hotel is the Fairmont Macdonald BUT I refuse to stay there anymore. It's old, gross, the internet is painfully slow, the hotel dining is brutal. My only compliment is the valet staff are top notch. Regardless it's almost always booked up. Cheateu Lacombe is decent. But the one hotel I recommend is the Delta South which has been modernized, rooms and bathrooms are nice, has a decent gym and actual high speed internet, excellent bang for your buck.

Thanks all for the help ended up booking an air suite at Mettera. Not that it well affect many people but I found out they offer a very substantial government/military discount. Brought my total down from 472 to 312 for the two nights!

I usually stay at the Marriott at river Cree. Close to west ed and theres a decent casino there. If staying downtown I normally stay at the Westin.

If you want a really nice hotel with a lot of character I always recommend the Union Bank In. It is a beautiful old building right on Jasper Ave with a good restaurant in the hotel. You are also within walking distance of Edmonton Center and some great restaurants in the Downtown Core.

Post back with how the Mett is, I've always wondered about it. Heard good things but never seen inside.
