I got this email from Shaw yesterday after I downloaded a torrent a few weeks ago. Has anyone received one of these before? should I be worried / delete the file? Should I pay and get a VPN?

I'd take that as a warning.

Also take this as an opportunity to learn how to protect yourself to not have it happen again.

Runtime ............: 1hr 30m
Size ...............: 2.76 GB
Video ..............: 1918x798
Bitrate ............: 3871 kbps (H264 [email protected])
Audio 1.............: English AC3 5.1 Ch 384 kbps
Chapters............: Yes
Source .............: iTunes

The movie is only 1 hour and 30 minutes, with AC3 audio (instead of DTS).

The bitrate is a wee bit low for 1080p though, should be closer to 6000.

At 6000kps that movie would be 4 GB for just video, and 260mb for AC3 audio. (or 1GB for DTS @ 1510kbps)
