View Full Version : BMW 1M worth more now than when it was brand new

Alright who else has one aside from Redlyne_mr2?
http://www.autoblog.com/2014/04/06/2011-bmw-1-series-m-coupe-price-investment/

With only 740 units sold in the US to begin with, finding data on 1MC sales is a bit dicey, but here's what we know. We tracked down about 20 cars currently on sale, by way of major used auto sales websites, and found an average asking price of a whopping $61,670 with an average mileage of about 11,600 on the clock. That's more than $15,500 over the MSRP when new, or an appreciation of around $5k per year.

The best deal we could locate was a 14k-miler for $55,500; the most expensive being $65,991 with just 8,800 miles. Those numbers are just about right on based on the industry standard Black Book, too, which calls the retail value in California, for instance, at an even $60,000 for an "Extra Clean" car. Talk about an investment we can get behind...

I was very close to financing my ass off to get one, but decided it was a bad idea.

I would like to buy one, years down the road still, unless I can get an M2 in a few years.

Last year when I checked most were, cheapest at a dealer was $65000+tax that I found and the cheapest private sale was around that as well.

There are a few on Autotrader in the high 50's for sale

I seem to remember low 60s without any markup when new?

That's interesting but I don't think it applies to the Canadian market.

It definitely does.

I was chatting with my salesman when I bought my M235i. They had 2 Valencia Oranges listed above MSRP.

They were both pretty used to.

Took a lot less time for them to appreciate in value then the E30 M3.

Just based on merits (and I know Beyonders love that "oh my car is rare" bullshit), why would anyone buy a used 1M over a comparable used M3?

benyl

The 1M is faster, especially in Calgary.

Well according to Motor Trend at sea level, not really.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1108_2011_bmw_1_series_m_vs_2011_bmw_m3_comparison/

So in Calgary, the 1M might be quicker in a straight line but to the rest of the world where altitude doesn't matter, the 8000 RPMs and more luxury seems more appealing to me than the 1M. Plus I think the M3 looks better.

With the turbo motor, it's easier to get bigger hp gains.
For instance: $700 you can get another 45hp with a simple ECU flash on the 1M.
The M3, can't do that. A M3 ecu flash would get you half that.

The new 2015 M3 or M4 starts around mid-70's and has the S55 engine I believe over 425hp stock.

I seriously would not know why someone would buy the 1 Series M that is used and has high KM's as to the new 2015 M3 or M4 (unless you are a car collector)

The M2 will be out in a bit too, which is the successor to the 1M. Probably hitting the peak for 1M prices around now.

The M235i is amazingly fun to drive... suprising even. We sold all of our stock and are now in to May production orders. Still have a automatic demo. Best auto transmission you will ever find next to dual clutch.

Would be interesting to try.. So far nothing comes close to the logic in the C63 7 speed (not the MCT).

Mine is great best auto I have ever driven, the different shift modes help a lot and in sport modes the shifts are lightning. 200ms shifts considering even the bests dual clutches are like 80-90 ms. I was a pure manual/dct guy before this to but needed the practicality of the auto for my fiancé (she can't drive stick).

Onto the topic of the thread I loved the 1 m and hate that I wasn't in a financial situation to pick one up when they were out. The m235i really is everything that the 1m was and is even a bit faster. Better looking to imo. Just a touch less purpose built hence m performance rather than true m. Just makes the car more practical.

Can't comment on m2 but the m235i is not dissapointing in the least. Just waiting for my LSD to come in : D :burnout:

Are you going to track day the car? I would love to feel a M235i with the LSD and see the difference. I have a few clients wondering if its worth it! It costs about $3K right?

I would definitely like to hit the track a few times with it in it's life. I have never done any racing though. No time like the present.

I haven't ordered the LSD yet, it's kindof a unicorn from what I can say. The bmwna m performance parts sheet says q3 I guess. I need to give Colin a call to see what's up with it.

3k is the rumor yea though I'm hoping a bit less. The LSD on a cayman is only 1200 I think haha.

Great vehicle

It does look more cute than a serious performer with the friendly face front-end

Straight line guy only are you? My 135i handled like ass and it's part of the reason I ended up getting rid of it. Great powertrain though!
