Is this one a club exception? I don't recall seeing any mention of this in the SCCA rules, but maybe I overlooked it.

I was under the impression you can only use diameters that are offered as factory options for the car

It's in the rulebook:

13.4 WHEELS
Any type wheel may be used provided it complies with the following: 2015 SCCA® NAtioNAl Solo® RuleS — 73
13. Street
A. It is the same width as standard and as installed it does not have an
offset more than ±¼” (±6.35mm) from a standard wheel for the car.
The resultant change in track dimensions is allowed.
B. Wheel (rim) diameter may be increased or decreased 1” from the
standard part.

So, if car comes with 15" stock and 16" optional, you can go to 17" provided you have same width and offset as the stock 15 or optional 16.

Going with a 140 wear rating will have you wear out the tires just driving to Ft McLeod from Calgary. haha.

What will the wear rating be for 2015?

There have been a number of complaints about that Vette, but as of now we have not taken any action. This does not mean that we are going to accept another car that is that loud, but rather we are working on the best way of dealing with the current issue without causing undue hardship to the owner.

With the residence so close I think we should be concerned with noise at Fort MacLeod. It sucks but it sucks even more that we don't have a Calgary Venue because of noise.

No standardized tire testing means I could go out and make practically an R Comp if I wanted and market it as 200UTG rating :P

Thanks.

I believe the rules state 96dB @ 20ft to the side at a section of the course where the car is at Wide Open Throttle. Stuart please correct me if I'm wrong.

The car does have headers but it's certainly not straight piped (factory axle back active exhaust). With the active exhaust valves in the open position (which automatically open and cannot be kept shut past 3600RPM) the exhaust takes a "shortened" path through the mufflers but it is still muffled to some extent.

As for Castrol I was far from the loudest car then considering the road course is right next to the drag strip and there was a top fuel car there on July 27th

:( Still trying to figure out what I could do to quiet it down a bit without having to weld in resonators or add four downward facing tips. I don't know if I'm much louder or even louder at all than the red Corvette though. I'm really curious to see if I'm past the 96dB measurement though.

And if you sold it in enough quantities and made it available to other competitors it would be legal lol

When your bypass kicks in (out?), your car is much louder than Jay's Corvette, at least to the ears. No idea what a db meter shows.

I guess I've never heard my own car from outside, I think I'm going to have to get someone to take it for a run while I watch from the sidelines.

I'm going to see if there is anything I can do to Jerry-Rig those valves to stay closed at all times.

The volume hits when the exhaust is pointing towards the listener. Sounds close to a straigt pipe at that point.

Is there a fuse you can pull in the circuit?

If it were that simple I would have done it a long time ago, truth is the valves fail open and rely on engine vacuum to keep them closed.

with R's and the rest of the car stock it would in the Street R class which is more or less the stock class but with R comps.

Only differences i can see beside the tires is that the allowance of 1" larger than stock diameter is not allowed in the Street R class. Looks like you use the same classing as stock (ie. BS) but your pax is slightly different because of R comps.

Yep I believe the class was added this year. Looks like the index is different for each class (ie. not a blanket .98 multiplier like we did in the past). None the less, interesting.

To the best of my knowledge the Street R classes are a one year only thing with the exception of SSR. I believe the SCCA was using it to help ease the switch to street tires as there was quite an uproar over the proposal. Just be aware that next year that classes may disapear...or not depending on the whim of the SCCA rulemakers.

reijo
08-13-2014, 12:52 PM
The R-compound stock class except for SS will be gone next year as Stuart said.

After that the Street Stock classes will require tires with a thread wear rating of 200 minimum.

Your choices are street prepared, street modified, prepared, and modified. For example, if I slap on r-comps next year, my S2000 has to run in BSP. Some cars don't qualify for anything except modified (probable EM if they still have a roof and doors).

They do allow for mods, although locally, there are very few people that run a fully prepared vehicle. So, I wouldn't go so far as to say "no point". I still have some r-comps that I hoped to burn off this year, but it is looking like I will still have them next year. BSP, here I come :)

I see why you are running on streets this year Murray

This year still has classes for stock cars on race rubber, they just renamed them. e.g. I am in BSR when I run r-comps. Next year, those classes go away.

I was running on street tires for serveral reasons:
1. Much cheaper
2. Arrive and drive is nice for lazy people like me
3. Street tires are so much better now, and the ones I like give feedback almost as good as Hoosiers.

Getting into first was quite easy in the Miata. I found that in my RX-8 when I had the clutch replaced it made a big difference for the 2-1 downshift. However the Miata has a much better seating and pedal position for heel-toe which is the thing I find helps the most.

And I agree, Hoosier's are awesome hands down!

Me too. Making it a giant slalom made it harder to get lost but also more difficult to complete.

I psyched myself out. Tried matching my morning time on a slower course. The end result being 11 cones in 3 runs. Frustrating since I know I could have been so much faster. I guess there's always more events. I probably won't make it out to any events next year though.
