2007 Mini Cooper S - Turbocharged
This has been my daily driver for past 3 years. It is a fantastic handling car, that will transition and corner better than most vehicles on the road. It is very predictable in both winter and summer. The stability control for winter is one of the best systems I've come across.
The car has a few modifications, but they are relatively lowkey modifications for what I would normally get into since I have a project car already. Basic summary:
Panoramic dual sunroof, heated seats, hill start assist, side air bags, ABS, stability control, etc. etc.
Laser Blue Metallic with white stripes. One of the best colors on the minis to me.
AB/BC car with clean title, no major accidents. Whenever I look at cars in Alberta it always seems like a challenge to find a car that wasn't from out East.
Alta Performance downpipe with the two 3" catalytic converters to keep things clean still. The muffler is stock so cruising around it is pretty much like stock quiet. Over 1/3 throttle or so, it sounds more manly like the older supercharged Cooperworks. Note this does leave Catalytic converter code on ECU unfortunately. Only real way to get rid of this on an R56 is via ECU re-mapping, but I did not go down that road. It would certainly make the car a lot more fun.
AFE dry intake filter.
Lowering springs. The stance is better, turn in is better.
The stock mini cooper s stereo was the worst of any new car I've driven in its price range. I've made that substantially better and kept all stock stereo controls in place, CD, etc. basically it goes through a high level converter to a MiniDSP to split into an active signal processor (MiniDSP) and crossed over and time delay for the front speakers, into an oldschool amplifier and 4 x 6.5" Tangband high excursion drivers , and custom aurasound tweeters. The tangbands are in the front and rear panels, so trunk space is still 100% open. If you listen at high volumes, you'll want to stiffen up the panels or it will vibrate. For most reasonable volumes, there isn't an issue. Similar to idea of what the JBL MS-8 does, just a more cost effective way of doing it.
General Altimax studded winter tires on stock rims. Tires still in good shape
16" Motegi summer rims. Tires are about due
Sunroof was replaced with new unit just after I bought it. Mini service was so terrible though, I never went back. Was/may still be extended warranty for a few months, but Mini broke my sunvisor, smudged a panel with grease, broke clips elsewhere, and required 3-4 drop offs on the sunroof on the warranty repair. Had no desire to return to them ever.
Have new EBC rear brake pads and rotors NOT installed yet.
More frequent oil and filter changes than minis recommendations with synthetic,
It is a used car, so it's not perfection and could use didn't finishing touches on some components. Some bits around the stereo could be cleaned up, etc.. It's a great base, ultra fun, and has kept me going to work every day.
I've been arguing with wife to keep it for past 2 years, and just giving in now due to her surprise vehicle purhcase for herself. Anyway, would prefer it to go to someone who knows about Minis
