So, I've been lurking around the 'vette forums, tossing around the idea of trying out a C5 Z06, and along comes a car with almost exactly the engine I'd build if I were to do it myself, at a much lower investment than if I were to start with a stock car and do all the upgrades myself. This was all the justification I needed to accept the gouging I got on the exchange rate and now this thing is headed north from it's former home in AZ. I'm pretty excited to pick it up and figured I'd share in case there's any domestic love left around here.

It's a 2004 Corvette Z06 with a fresh 416 c.i. LS3. making 512hp / 474lb.ft at the wheels backed by a RPM Stage V+ trans and DTS Stage III 3.90 diff.

Link to photobucket album. (http://s148.photobucket.com/user/robbinst82/library/2004%20Corvette%20Z06)

Here are the full specs if anyone is interested.

- Brian Tooley Racing LSR HR lifters
- Chromemoly pushrods
- LS3 rocker arms with trunion upgrade
- Advanced Induction CNC ported LS3 cylinder heads 280CC program
- Ported LS3 intake
- Melling Oil Pump
- RPM Level V (+) Transmission with Tranny Brace and Super Duty 3rd Gear Syncro (approx 20K miles).
- DTE Stage III Differential with Dual Hardened Output Shafts and 390 Gearset (approx 20K miles).
- New McCleod Street Twin Disk Clutch w/Billet Core Steel Flywheel, New Slave Cylinder w/Remote Bleeder

- Kooks 1 7/8" Headers To 3" Custom Exhaust With GHL Magnum Catback
- Dyno Tune By Nic D.

I think it needs a Procharger, Drag Radials, and a lumpy cam, but we'll see how much I like it and how long it ends up staying around.

Very nice! Sounds like a healthy LS3 under the hood. 512 rwhp
in a C5 Z06 is plenty healthy in my books. Sounds like it's built
for plenty of abuse. C5 Z06 is where it's at for a reasonable budget
track/street car to me.

I'd say no to the procharger, I mean if you've got money to burn go nuts.. the F1 jet sound is almost worth it alone! It just seems a little overkill with all the power you have already.

Any pictures of the engine/build process?

Loved my c5. And this one is far nicer. (Though as a dd, I did prefer having a targa roof)

^What's the headroom like in a C5? I'd agree on the targa roof. It's a nice feature in the summer without a doubt.

The targa is awesome. The roof is light and easy to fit, and if you don't look back it might as well be a vert. Clearly the solid roof is best for track use, but if I bought another id have the targa for sure. The headroom is actually very decent- especially with the clear roof. I'm nearly 6' tall, and had several inches to spare. For that matter, at 225 lbs (at the time) the entire car was very roomy in almost all respects which is one of the best features of the vette. I went to a boxster after, which felt like a sardine can in comparison. Plus it was slow as fuck. Not nearly the car the vette was.

awesome car, i really enjoy driving my dads C5 convertible around the lake in the summertime. Only thing to be careful of is being an AZ car, make sure there is no water/flood damage. I know it sounds crazy, but they get some flash rainfall there in the winter that can drown cars.

Holy shit, epic.

Mind if I ask what you'd pay for something like that? US Vette's are noticeably cheaper then up here, but with all those mods, Im quite curious.

Very nice car, Im jealous.

Prochargers are nice, but I doubt you'll find a new one for less then $4-5k. :(

for shits and giggles, why the C5 and not a C6? price? style? I dont mind the C5 but the C6 is such a good looking car id be really tempted to skip the Z06 C5 and get right into a C6 base. Then again I know nothing about the vette lol

<redacted>. Even with the beating I took on exchange and the border costs I think I did well on it. I'm not sure what it would be worth up here if/when I sell it but everyone up here seems to think their 'vettes are made of gold.

I've just always liked the C5s, and wanted to try a C5Z while I could still get used ones in decent shape for a reasonable price. I like the C5 interior and front end better personally, and wanted something with a little more power than stock, without having to pay for all the mods myself.

when is it due to arrive? May 10/11 is the Solo Driving school at the Fort Mcleod Airport strip, would be a great place to learn its balance and get some great instructors to teach you how to push it on the auto-x course.

I just have a couple so far, not sure if the shop who built it took any photos of the actual build.

And I was surfing around YouTube and ran in to a video from the shop's owner of the car being dyno'ed.

Thanks, I was actually looking for some sort of autocross training last night. I'm not 100% sure when the car will arrive, but if it's here and legal by then, I'll try to get in on that. I've never tried autocross before, but even if it doesn't turn out to be my thing, I'm sure the training will be worthwhile.

its a great school to take, they bring some amazing instructors. They do a great job of making the day fun and at the end you will have a good feel for the vehicle

What are some good vette forums, preferably with a good classified section?

I found the best selection on corvetteforum.com, especially if you want a modded car. If a stock one will do, autotrader.com has tons.
