Well good thing this is all under insurance. Those 90 KM/H winds got the better of the door when I opened it an boom... appears that the hinges are bent along with the dents on the door. Not sure yet if the fender or hood are bent up too. Getting it looked at with AMA in a couple of days. Ugh FML :banghead: Guess I'll be on the bicycle for a little bit.

Sad to see man, surprised insurance is covering it and not just calling it "an act of god" and telling you to shove it so at least that's going for you hahaha.

That sucks. Would getting a red door from the wreckers be perhaps cheaper in the long run than an insurance claim?

Usually AMA does everything in their power to make your life miserable, so congratulations on getting them to open the purse.

Really?

Because that hasn't been my experience with them and I've been with them for 35+ years - multiple claims on both vehicles and house and never any hassles.

Had a vehicle that was vandalized twice and then rear-ended while parked on the street and the claims on that vehicle were probably double what it was worth in 3 months and the AMA didn't blink an eye nor raise my rates. This same vehicle which had a custom paint job came back from the body shop after the rear end claim with one little 5'x1" section behind the front bumper that the body shop didn't repaint - whole car had to be repainted because of custom paint color. Body shop said they wouldn't repaint that one little section because they felt it was close enough in color - all it took was one quick phone call to AMA and that AMA-approved body shop was quickly booking my vehicle in to get the issue addressed.

Various hail damage claims over the years - twice in 3 months in the 90's at our previous home and big 2012 hail claim in our current home and again, no issues. Two vehicles also damaged from the 2012 storm and again no issues - both repaired in under a month while there were threads in this forum of people with other insurance companies having all sorts of problems/delays.

How some people can have such a bad experience with an insurance company while others never have problems is quite something - one has to wonder why the dynamics are so different for some.

No such thing as "act of god" in insurance (in Alberta anyway). This will get labelled as wind damage = comprehensive = no increase to future insurance. OP is going to be just fine.

And OP, you shouldn't need to ride the bicycle, your policy should have the SEF 20 (Loss of use) coverage which provides a rental if your vehicle is not driveable due to an insurance related event.

Some light reading from the cooperators regarding "act of god" - link (http://www.cooperators.ca/en/Answer-Centre/how-does-insurance-work/act-of-god.aspx).

Comprehensive insurance coverage would cover something like MalibuStacy had happen to their vehicle and if someone has gotten the short end of the stick in a similar situation when they had comprehensive coverage, then they should be having a little sit down with their insurance company.

Maybe people don't just understand the difference between third party liability (PLPD - public liability/public damage) coverage (required in Alberta), collision coverage (optional), comprehensive coverage (optional), specified perils coverage (optional) and the various SEF endorsements (optional).

Here's a link (http://www.airb.alberta.ca/drivers/getting_insurance.aspx) to the Alberta Insurance Rate Board's web site that details all of this a bit better.
