I'm a poor college student, and I need a new car. There's a 1995 Celica GT for sale for $5,900. I can probably get the price lowered a bit. It's got almost 100,000 miles on it.

Here's my question: How far past 100k will the Celica last? I need a car good for at least 4 more years. Corollas and Camrys can break the 250k mark as long as you keep their oil changed, etc, but I'm not sure about the Celica. Does it last just as long?

Someone also said they thought the Celica has the same engine as the Camry. Is this true?

I've seen some of the older celicas hit 280,000km's without a problem. It depends on the cars history and how you maintain it mostly.

When you buy a Toyota, your buying quality, they will last you
a long time if you just take care of them, like any car.
They don't have the same engine as the camary, but it's a toyota engine, it'sgood. Just make sure the clutch is good, they cost alot on imports, check the seals and gaskets for heavy leaks, and test drive it.. The 95 celica is a very nice ride, $5900US is a good price.

Welllllll..... I wouldn't buy a GM car with 100k on it. Or a chevy. Or a Ford. Or most Mitsubishis. I know Toyota is great for reliability (my Corolla has 75k and it's not even broken in yet), but I don't hear of many cars, not even many Toyotas, that can reach 250k reliably. Now, I know that it will last past 100k, but the question is, how far past that point? I don't want to be putting $500 or more into repairs annually starting in a year or two. Will this car easily last just as long as a well-kept Corolla or a Camry?

You guys gotta remember he lives in Florida, near the ocean. There's more salt in the air so the car will rust quicker then it will up here, mileage down there and mileage up here are two different thing.

Rust actually isn't a problem here. I have to drive at least an hour to get to the coast. Mileage probably counts the same here as it does in Idaho.

So, does anyone else know how they hold together up to about 200,000 miles?

it's hard to give you an exact # man, every car is different and you have to take into consideration a couple of factors... how has it been maintained? Oil changes done on a regular basis? How has it been driven i.e. but a 60 year old granny or 18 year old kid. I had a 90 Z24 with 225 000kms on it my fiancee has a 91 with 159 000 and hers is in nowhere near as good of shape as mine. I would say get it inspected by a mechanic and check the service records.

good luck

I have a P.O.S. 86 toyota camary for winter and It's got
246 000km, runs and drives awsome, I have no
worries about it breaking down...

I don't care if it does anyway I bought it for $200:D

Speaking of Toyota reliability, did anyone see that guy on David Letterman a few years back with an old '81 Starlet?? He turned his odometer back to zero.

I saw that one. I thought it was a geo prism or something, though. Man, that was one ugly car.
