Nissan testing out a super hydrophobic coating on a Versa Note. Not a very new technology but a first on a car I think?

That could be pretty handy here in Alberta.

If they released it on a car it would certainly be a first. Detailers have been overing this service for years... I have tried 4-5 different coatings and they work to varying degrees. From my testing it blows wax and sealant out of the water from my testing but still not perfect. One really nice thing is that coated cars typically come clean with a cheap $2 spray down at a car wash. The crappy part is that it is harder to apply and you NEED to ensure that the vehicle isn't exposed to the elements for 24 hours, which is harder than it sounds. I haven't been able to find free time to coat daily driver yet because last summer was full of rain

And didn't Auto Obsessed put some kind of hydrophobic nano coating on an Acura MDX or something? I can't find the video, but it looks pretty awesome.

Very excited for this technology to hit mainstream.

That would be pretty cool but I imagine it would render waxes or sealants useless so as long as it doesn't discolor and keeps a good shine it would be a good idea.

Closest thing I've seen so far to that is Opti-Coat and while it still gets dirty all the road grime comes off much easier as I can just walk into a was bay and have my car clean in half the time it used to take. The downside of Opti-Coat is as I said before that waxes and sealants won't bond to it so in a week or so after waxing it will be gone and it's permanent so if you apply it the only way to get it off is to polish it down to the paint.
