Mercedes recalls over 284,000 cars to fix lights (http://globalnews.ca/news/1297982/recalls-hit-high-end-mercedes-recalls-over-284000-cars-to-fix-lights/)

DETROIT – Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 284,000 C-Class cars in the U.S. and Canada because the rear lights can fail.

The recall affects some C300, C350 and C63 AMG cars from the 2008 through 2011 model years.

Corrosion on a connector can cause the tail, brake or rear turn signal lights to dim or fail. That can make the cars less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

The problem affects nearly 253,000 cars in the U.S. and another 31,000 in Canada. A Mercedes spokesman says cars in other countries also are affected, but he did not have a number. The company says if the problem occurs, drivers will see a dashboard warning message.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says dealers will replace bulb holders and any rusted connectors at no cost to owners. Replacement parts aren’t expected to be available until August or September.

This has been a service advisory for a while now. I'm guessing the recall is to cover people who haven't done it yet.

When did the c-class become "high end"?

Pretty sure he was referring to the brand.

Weird, the connectors are plastic. Maybe they're talking about underneath the plastic.

But yea, people were reporting this problem forever now, and if you ignore it, taillights can catch fire too. It was fixed for MY2010, so I'm not sure why this recall says MY2008-2011.

Just goes to show how slow NHTSA is haha, problem resolved/TSB issued in 2010, NHTSA opens case in July 2013, force a recall in April 2014.

I'm sure Mercedes and Chysler gave each other all kinds of STDs when they were hooking up. Expect more recalls in the future.

FYI, everyone fucks up as no manufacturer make every single part that goes into their cars.

Everybody will be recalled. B8 A4/S4 got recalled on the tail lights as well due to improper sealing.

And expect the more fancy, newer tech a car company tries, the more recall they will be issuing.

I shouldn't jinx it but assuming this recall affects my car, it would be the first known issue. 40k and 3 years later, still not a single thing has gone wrong; only regular yearly maintenance has been performed so far.

So really, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Lucky you've never owned a early-mid 2000's Mercedes Benz. The quality was so bad Merc's started ranking at the bottom of quality indexes, and management put a stop to all fun performance projects until quality was fixed. The Black Series brand, as well as the SLS project being green lit was a reward for the engineers addressing the quality issues and bringing quality back up to standard.

If you look for my post with all my cars that I've owned, there's an obvious MB ownership gap in the DaimlerChrysler AG era lol.

A large majority of the quality issues that MB was dealing with at that time was with the ML.

I see something similar happening with the w205s that are going to be built in Alabama as well.

If this only included the loom with the auto trunk up/down. Had to fix a buddies and I think it's a common problem for the wire to break over time. Seems to be too tightly clamped to the trunk arm.

I wasn't trying to hurt you and your car's feelings, so I'm (not) sorry.
