Going to start by saying that me and a buddy have been having an amusing debate with the guys at Forgestar around a statement they made. This is from (I believe) Peter@Forgestar, "A structural failure is something like the spokes of the wheels cracking on their own not due to impact"

And now the story, I had 4 new tires mounted and was informed that I had 4 cracked wheels. I sent the pictures to Forgestar for warranty purpose and they came back stating they need to have the wheels to test them (fair enough). Well that cost me money and I don't even know what they are going to look for. So I asked and this was what they said Unfortunately no one else has the type of testing equipment we use to test the wheels.

Pictures for your enjoyment.

My fear here is that I will send them out and they will come back and say our special testing equipment says you have a bend in each of these wheels. Yes that is correct, any bends in the wheel will void the warranty for that wheel again from Peter.

I guess the lesson here is suck it up princess and don't cheap out next time. Sure wish I would have mounted new tires in the winter.

If you look online, there is a ridiculous amount of cracked forgestars, even ones that havent been rolled on only mounted. I was thinking of getting forgestars until i read the reviews.

I'm confused - are you saying the rims cracked while mounting tires, or they were cracked before and the tire shop discovered it while mounting?

What gets me is how loosely the term "forged" is used in the wheel industry. After 12 years in the automotive and aftermarket parts world, I can only say there are a handful of companies that make properly forged wheels.

Neez would be one of them...

Says it all in 'About Us' section on their website:

With over 30 years of combined experience in the automotive wheel industry Forgestar Performance Wheels has bridged the gap between forged wheels and cast wheels. Forgestar Performance Wheels is proud to introduce the world's first one piece lightweight custom flow formed wheel lineup.

Flow Forming is a production procedure that turns the wheel (or rim section) over a special mandrel and three hydraulic rollers using tremendous pressure. The pressure and turning then force the rim area to form against the mandrel, creating the shape and width of the rim. During Flow Forming, the rim actually "flows" down to create the full rim width. During Flow Forming, pressure applied to the cast rim actually changes its mechanical properties, so its strength and impact values become similar to those of a forged rim. That translates to up to 15% less weight when compared to a standard cast wheel. Our technological breakthroughs in heat treating allow us to increase dent resistance without having to make the wheel heavier.[/url]
