Hey guys,

I had installed a USB 3.0 PCI card in my comp, and it worked fine.

Now it's having an issue. When I plug in my external harddrive, the light on the harddrive comes on but nothing gets detected on comp.

It's as if the card is supplying power to the drive but not reading from it.

I looked in device manager and there seems to be few items named "WPD filesystem volume driver" that have exclamation marks on them.

I don't know if this is the problem. I tried updating the drivers to these items but it says that the latest drivers are already installed.

I'm running windows 7, 64 bit, and the PCI card that I've installed is this one:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX44921

I tried different ports on the card but still no luck. I tried installing drivers again and I get the error

"Sorry, the install wizard can't find the supported hardware in your system"

Please help me out!

Are you sure it's not the drive? Try plugging in another drive, or some other USB device.

It's a PCIe card so make sure you have it in the right slot.

Use a PCIe x1 slot (you should have at least one) or you can even use an empty x8 or x16.

Make sure you have the most up to date drivers from the Vantec site.

I would:
- Uninstall the drivers, pull out the card (shutdown first, unplug etc).
- Start up again make sure you don't see it in the device manager (shutdown, unplug etc).
- Install the card don't let windows update install any drivers .
- Go the device manager, scan for hardware changes, select the card and install the drivers from there.

Also make sure you have the SATA to 4-Pin Molex Power Converter connected to the card if the external drive doesn't have it's own powers source.

EDIT: added more shutdown, unplug in case you didn't know... ;)

I unplugged the card and installed it in a different pci-e slot

that fixed it!

Thanks for the help gents!

by the way,

if one of the slots is not working anymore...is that indicative of a failing motherboard?

What your MB brand/model #?

Sometimes add on cards don't play nice with some MBs... :dunno:
