I have a flexible schedule, wondering if I can walk-on as a single player at public courses in Calgary at say ..... 130PM on a Tuesday, and get put in with another group? Never tried it, not sure what I can expect. Are the courses always booked solid or would I have some luck?

I almost exclusively play as a single (maybe once or twice a year out of 25 rounds are with people I know). I don't have much trouble but I golf peak times (Saturday mornings usually) not midday, midweek and I almost always book ahead. I would not expect to walk on much if you are specific in where you want to play but you should almost always find something I think.

i've always called ahead and generally never had a problem unless it's a really sunny day. there's almost always a teetime somewhere for a single.

my biggest suggestion (having been on both sides) is to play the appropriate teebox.

I used to work at CoC courses and we had singles walk on all the time. Always better to call in advance but you'll still have good luck walking on as a single.
